    Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

I've been driving around with the PSE vacuum-hose modification for the past 4 months (2300 miles) enjoying it very much.

Felt like a change so I un-did the mod. Now I can choose between the normal flat 6 sound and the PSE sound again (albeit with a 30-50mph cut-off ). Also I know that if one leaves the PSE mod in place too long, there is a risk that the flaps inside the exhaust can remain jammed open at all times making it impossible to switch between loud and quiet. Best to keep rotating between the two perhaps...

I intend to re-do the modification fairly soon...

I just love this car. You guys who are taking delivery imminently of your first Porsches, all I can say is that you are really in for something special...

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

For sure its a very special car......

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

    I've my europipe installed for over a month now and love it very much;
My wife though would prefer it could be switched on and off...
    Luckily it can't be done...

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

easy_rider - why do you disable the exhaust? isn't it disabled when you are not in the sport mode?

No. He's modded the PSE to be "on" all the time.

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

install the '' switch'', then you can change the setting when ever you want

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

Personally I'd opt for the Europipe solution.

Eays Rider just proved that in the end, regardless the on/off mod, the PSE gets boring and noisy while Europipe at least adds a respectful dozen of bhp with some kgm(lbft, if you prefer) of torque. Especially in the 3-5k rpm range when our C2S engine is heavily sleeping.

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

the switch is handy...I use it in my street. It's a dead end street and I want to keep good neighbour relationship
Once I turn at the end of the street, it's full ON :-)
Really best solution as no risk of flaps getting jammed.

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

The switched install WOULD be the best solution, if the DME didn't deactivate it at speed

Dealer said install requires exhaust change (really!!), switch install, and DME reprog. I wonder if the switch works when the DME thinks its a non-PSE car - then it could be always on/off, without DME intervention......

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

@function_analysi, it's not "boring" - that's quite a strong word for it - it's just that I haven't heard the 'normal' flat 6 sound on my car for nearly 4 months now. I wanted to enjoy that again for a while. The only time I have heard that sound recently is whenever somebody else's 911 (without PSE) drives past me whenever I walk to/from my office! Felt like listening to the helmholtz resonator above 5000rpm since I haven't un-done the always-on PSE mod after completing engine break-in. Above 5000rpm, the sound of the PSE makes it difficult to hear the helmholtz resonator properly.

Also, the other reason for the 'un-mod' was to keep the flaps opening/closing easily...

I definitely need to install the switch solution though....

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

@Easy_Rider, thanks for your definition. How else could you call an exciting sound effect with no obvious power benefits. That's the boring situation otherwise a karaoke device plugged to a 7.1 amplifier would be the most affordable sound experience of a PSE system.

? which DME reprog. All you need is a switch that cuts electric signal to valves.
So when OFF, PSE is always LOUD
When ON, PSE is according to sport button position (MUTE or LOUD but with cutoff).

Forgetting the Sport button for a minute, with PSE engaged (On/LOUD), doesn't the DME still deactivates it at certain speeds?

Apologies if this is 987 specific - just quoting what I have been told.

NO! Interrupting the 12 volts to the solenoid, Causes LOUD!

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

    Indeed :-)

Re: Un-did my PSE modification temporarily

Thanks for clearing that up for me

Wonder why it cuts out on 987

Re-did my PSE always ON mod

Re-did it yesterday since I found I had been missing it too much. The aural pleasure is so important...like an orchestra!

Have other owners here done the mod and just left it like that?

    Cheers,
    Easy
