    Autoexpress Gpoup Test 997TT vs. Lambo Galliardo

    Wanna know why Lambo wins over 997TT? Because it makes you feel special, says the Autoexpress verdict. Probably, they aren't serious and they should apologize for the possibly worst ever argumentation and reasoning expressed in my 10-year automotive car testing career.

    Have you driven both of the cars yourself? I suppose you haven't because you feel very, very special in a Gallardo. In a 997TT you only feel special.

    Personnally part of the reason I chose a Porsche is becuase of the fairly low key appearance. I really would not feel comfortable driving around in a Lambo at all, so yes I do agree the looks are fantastic, but just too OTT for me everyday..I think Porsche has done a good job of balancing the 'flash' factor with the 'low key' factor and it should be recognised in some road tests that the act of balancing those two attributes is a very delicate thing.

    How do you measure 'feeling special'? I find it so frustrating reading reviews where the reviewer's subjective discretion (read preconceptions and prejudices) play such a big part in their final assessment.

    "special feeling" ?? EZ, consider this, although the TT is a utterly fantastic performing machine, for casual use it has none of the fun factor that a Lambo has. Basically the TT looks and feels just like any other 997 inside and not much different outside. Its outstanding engineering but lacks the visual panache, the presence, the passion and the aural romance of the Gallardo. And other than that hideous Audi sourced gauge cluster, The Gallardos interior design is also not commonly seen. Therefore the Lambo is more "special."

    The Lambo invokes more of a la dolce vita spirit, the Porsche TT is more like a V2 for road use.

    in the real world, anymore standing out as being special related to percieved wealth isnt necessarily a good thing...imo

Not by its efficiency of speed (Porsche is as good if not better) but by the EXPERIENCE. When your in a Ferrari or Gallardo the world changes. When your in a Porsche, the world remains the same and no different than any other car.

    I feel more special in the turbo than in the Gallardo.
    I feel even more special as i pull away while the Gallardo is stragling to catch up....

    Exactly my point - what feels special to one person may not feel special to another person and vice versa. It's impossible to measure specialness. It's purely subjective.

    Gallardo equals bling bling. Nothing wrong with that. My only question, is it a car that can serve as an everyday driver? I would certainly consider a lambo, because I own a few porsche already. I like the Aston Mart. Db9 if given the choice. In particular, the one in the latest James Bond movie. Sophisticated bling bling.

    They should have compared the Gallardo with a GT3.

    The 997 Turbo is abit characterless against either but just so practical (although I was surprised to find the Gallardo had better wet road traction and felt heavier).

    The Turbo just so easy to drive for something so fast with decent turning circle, great visibility etc.

    IMO the GT3 pisses over both, esp the Gallardo which is nearer target market.

    GT3 massively better engine and so much nimbler/live wire round the bends.

    The GT3 epitomizes more of what all Porsches used to be. Notice that the GT3 is a product of Porsche Motorsports.

    The other 997's have been refined for a bigger audience. Many first time Porsche buyers have zero sports car experience and associate price more with luxury than near telepathic handling or visceral spirit.

    Wouldn't lie but one of the ultimate cars I've dreamed of would be Ferrari F1 430 spyder or the gallardo big brother LP640. Someday, after I donate one kidney, should be enough of a down payment on one of these.

    Finally, some objectivity. I may not share your view, Nick, but at least you are beginning to sound more objective.

    At the end of the day, when it comes to the thrill of the driving experience, it's all about perception. If a Lamborghini or a Ferrari is what it takes for you to get a buzz, then more power to you.

    Rubbishing other brands though is like indirectly rubbishing the ways in which other people get their thrills. We all get our thrills in different ways...
