What about PDK? any new information about release?

Hi, these's my first post but i'm reader from some months ago.
I was waiting for the release of the new PDK gearbox to place my order for a 997 TT from november but now I have read here and in other spanish boards that the release will be for the '09 and not for '08 as it was planned.

Someone knows anything new about it? I have to decided between today and tomorrow if I place my order for a manual that i will receive in June or if I wait more just to received the '08 specs. There will be any change or it will be the same and the changes for 997TT will be in 09?

I have now an BMW M3 E46 with SMG II and i love these gearbox and that the reason of waiting but now I don't really know what to do...

Sorry for my today poor english but I don't use to practice as much as I need

997 facelift will get in 2008 PDK.
997 turbo end of 2008 or even 2009.

SMG II you can't compare with PDK. PDK will be smoother. PDK is the sports alternative for today Tiptronic driver. SMG is the alternative for manual.

So the PDk will be release on '08 specs for all the 997 also the TT? or it will be just for the carrera and in the 09 specs with the turbo facelift?

My guess is that PDK and DFI will be part of the facelift for MY09. Look for them 2Q08.

You mean for the turbo, right? For the standard 997 both should come earlier.

Overall I would say my BMW M3 with SMG is very smooth.

If you set it on "grandma-is-in-the-car" mode it's smooth: no problem.

If you want to get frisky it is ALSO smooth _IF_ you input very fine throttle changes with your right foot. Not a big deal either. Once you have the car for a while you do the tiny throttle changes automatically.

QUESTION: Is the Porsche DSG or PDK alot smoother without having to do anything compared to SMG?

Will be a dream come true if it were even smoother because I find my current SMG to be really great.

The 911 facelift w/ PDK and DFI is a year away from the showroom. I hope that I'm wrong and we see the upgrades on MY08. Turbo to follow but who knows when.

The latest Road & Track talks about that. They confirm that the 911 facelift will come with PDK as a replacement to the current torque-converter-based auto tranny. They also say that PAG is having heat problems in the on-going PDK development.

If the current tiptronic used in the turbo really is as good as they pretend, why do they replace it by a PDK with which they seem to have a lot of problems developing it?

It's obvious the Tiptronic is a stop-gap solution. But no company will admit it.

At least Porsche preferred to wait until PDK was ready. Some of its competitors were not bothered selling an unfinished product (355 F1 / 360 F1 / e-Gear / SMG3 I'm looking at you!

I'm in the same situation, but i will ask for my turbo now and I'll received it in june so 07 spec. It will be the same spec at the 08, maybe in 09 it will hace the PDK but I think it will be with the facalift at '09 specs. so you will wait to ask it until last Q08?
