    Tire mileage

What's the typical mileage you guys are getting out of the rear tires? By the way mine came with the Michelin Pilot Sports.

    Re: Tire mileage

I'm on around 7000 miles and I think I will need to change over the next 2-3k miles.

    Re: Tire mileage

With my first set I did 6000 km
Now I am more carefull, should be around 10000 Km

    Re: Tire mileage

10-12k kilometers. I tried most N rated brands no difference.

Too much trackdays or an endless string of powerslides on those alpine pass roads ?
BTW: do you guys change all 4 tires (even if only the rear tires are gone) I'm asking because I'm wondering how the car will handle with brandnew tires at the rear axle (perfect grip) + half worn tires at the front axle (with mediocre grip). Might cause more turn-in understeer

As for the original question (tire mileage): 13 tkm (with a Boxster S though). I guess a poll would make more sense if everybody adds how he uses the car. For example in my case it's 40% "lame use" (city etc.), 30% Autobahn with frequent high speed legs and 30% "spirited" drive on winding country-roads. I'm sure the tire mileage would shrink to Gnil's number if the "spirited" portion would be bigger

Swiss hairpins are not so good for tyre-use IMHO

I go through rear tires at more than double the rate than front tires. By all means replace just the rear if the front is not worn more than 1/2 way.

I am currently trying out some Bridgestone tires with a 40K mile tread wear warranty. They got me through the winter with excellent traction and they give up very little dry traction. They are also half the price of the michelin pilots!

    Re: Tire mileage

go with the michelins, I think with normal street driving you should easily get 15-20K miles.

    Re: Tire mileage

PS2= about 10 to 12K. i GOT 20k on the rear of my 996 with contis.

I love the Michelins - for about the first 3K miles then they get noisy. After 8K the rears are GONE! I have no idea how you get 15-20K on the rears? If you get that many miles you are taking it so easy on the tires that tire make should be of no critical concern.

My tire 'wear' experience is based on 90K + miles in a 996 and 14K in a 997 using mostly Michelin PS2. I spent 3X as much on tires as on GAS!

I know the Bridgestones I am using now (Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position - Ultra High Performance All-Season ) are a bit un-orthodox but the ride and traction are spot-on. They really have a 40K tread wear warranty, which if it holds up and given the cost which is half of the Michelin, makes them MUCH cheaper - and I believe they ride better, especially on 19s.
    295X30X19 $265, 235X35X19 $205 - Tirerack

All of you go through enough sets of tires in the life of these cars that you owe yourself a set of these just to de-mystify the Michelins. They even came with a 30 day money back test drive gurantee. So far I am sold. I should have taken some video of me ice racing this last month.

No they are not for a GT3! But for daily street driving I find them to be perfect, especially for you high-mileage freaks like me.

    Cheers!

    Re: Tire mileage

    I've got Michelin PS2 N1
    - rear tires lasted 13K miles (inside tread completely wore to the core). Would strongly advise on alignment when changing tires. Fronts just now getting down to wear bar after 18K.
    - driving style...mostly conservative.

13K miles for me also on my rear PS2 N1's.

    Re: Tire mileage

Believe it or not, I did 28.000 KM with the 2 rear Conti's that came with my 997!
So I ordered the same to replace them...
I now have 32000KM and I'm still on the original 2 front tires.

    Re: Tire mileage

11500 on ps2's. Replaced with the same, prefer them to conti and bridgestones.

    Re: Tire mileage

Currently have 11,000 miles on the clock and the rears are ready to be changed. The C2S came with Pirelli's, but considering others.

    Re: Tire mileage

Currently 13K on the PS2 N1's. I think I'll be able to squeeze another 2K providing I don't use them in the rain which shouldn't be hard here.
