    Chips and intakes?

Hi guys my dad has had his 07 TT for a while now and I think hes looking for more power. I have an 06 mustang with 453 RWHP and my brother has an STI with a big turbo, So i know the world of chips and intakes. Ive seen a couple of intakes for the 997 turbo that claimed 43 horse(milltech I believe0, which Is believable for a car like this. But I have not been able to find any chips that crank up the boost. His last turbo(996) made 513 AWTQ and 456 AWHP. Are their any chips/ intake combos out their? Also he does not want to do an exhaust because he wants to keep it quiet seeing as its his DD.

Stay away from tuning for another 6 months, until any reliability issues are identified and resolved.

Since you're familiar with chips and intakes , you should know that turbo engines benefit much more from exhaust upgrades than from intakes. I think a chip and intake without exhaust would be asking for trouble since my research and readings about this taught me that the EGT temps would be too high with the stock 800 cats exhaust, maybe others can chime in as well.

    Re: Chips and intakes?

ahh986 I understand but he likes the quietness of the car. His last turbo had stock exhaust with bigger turbos. I saw gains of 43 awh with intake and only 23 with their exhaust.

    Re: Chips and intakes?

anybody have any feedback on evolution motorsports. Seems like their kit is pretty good, but a little pricey. But what do you expect from the aftermarket if its a 138,000 dollar car. If i can convince my dad to spend the 12 grand he would be very happy afterwards, but his rational is that he has other cars meant for amazing accel. Also his turbo setup on the last car didn't cost that much.

I had exactly the same issue with aftermarket exhausts with my 996tt. Tried a "quiet" version aftermkt exhaust and absolutely hated it- noise, resonance and worse response...
The best solution was for me to use stock exhaust with 200cell racing cats. Torque, response and power improved substantially with only a 10% increase in noise and 0% resonance. Sportec did that for me and I loved it.
May do that for my 997tt as well as soon as it arrives

    Re: Chips and intakes?

    GT,

If we just replaced the cats with 200 cell units, what do think the improvements would be relative to a Fabspeed exhaust. What would be the cost for the cat replacement?

    TIA,

    Mike

Have not tried the fabspeed but I can tell you my impression

Have not tried the fabspeed but I can tell you my impression comparing to the "quiet version" of a well known brand I tried on my car. With the aftermarket exhaust the engine lost considerably in response and low to mid rev torque. Whatever gains were at high rpms so overall the car was considerably less fun to drive. There was a lot of "silly" noise and drone; ie when cruising at 2-3k rpm half throttle.
When I changed back to stock exhaust with racing cats, response and low end torque improved considerably. High end power was better as well, I would say almost as good as with the aftermarket exhaust. Droning and resonance were gone completely and overall sound was +10% at most from stock. Overall much much better in all respects.
The gain, after further customising the existing software to the exhaust, was around 20hp and 30-40nm of torque.
Sportec did this, cant remember how much I paid but it was around 50% of the value of a new exhaust I think.

    Re: Chips and intakes?

I installed a Stage 4 Evoms (www.evoms.com) only I used Cargraphic Loud Exhaust. The car is transformed. I have tipronic and believe me you are glad you have two hands on the steering wheel when you get on it.

    The car rips!

I had a 996 tt with 709 hp (std transmission) and my 997tt although not as fast is more than most any body wants/can handle as a daily driver. This car is smooth and docile in traffic until you floor it then hold on ...

    Re: Chips and intakes?

tulsaturbo Any times from that. Yo say theirs a huge difference in the car?

I have discussed with many tuners and most of them dont upgrade tiptronic cars.. because they are afraid of doint so.. Is everything working properly on your car? What about the 0-100 from standstill ? Does it still has lag? Also which is the maximum pressure in bars that your car reaches?
Also one more question please.. have you placed the maniford sets from cargraphic to your car also!?
I will place for sure tha cargraphic medium sound version with maniford sets and round tailpipes on my car..
But I am still thinking of placing a modified Ecu..
Evoms on the otherhand is a tuner that I trust..
Despite the fact we have much better gas here in Europe..

I strongly recommend to listen to any exhaust first before you buy and install it to avoid disappointment. I could be an expensive mistake and everybody has different tastes..
