    July build dilemma

Well, my dealer dropped a bomb on me yesterday and told me I would not be able to get a May delivery on my Boxster S but that it would more than likely be July.

Problem is do I wait and get and get an 08 build slot. From what I've seen in the past after the August shutdown they deliver the new model in September/October. Waiting 2 months in this situation seems like a no brainer but I have mixed feelings. The facelift doesn't look significant but I would hate to see them also introduce DFI as well. I've waited this long so two months would not kill me.

    Re: July build dilemma

Wait for the facelift or check if there is a model in stock that more or less matches your specification and get it now...

    Re: July build dilemma

i thought the concensus is that the facelift is due for MY09, ie summer 2008 onwards. Wouldn't make sense for it to come before the 997 facelift either given that the 987 was released after the 997.

Also, porsche wouldn't increase power on the 987 without a 997 power increase first (to maintain the all important performance gap). Rumours on the 997 boards indicate that the facelift will be summer 2008 ie MY09...

In which case suggest you buy now, unless you can stand waiting 1.5 yrs till you get your car..

    Re: July build dilemma

Since you are in the Bay Area, you could always check to see if another dealership might have a better allocation scenario for you!

BTW, go with 18" with PASM and Sport if you can afford it, spend the money on performance type extras!

    Re: July build dilemma

I'd be inclined to wait and go for the '08. But given how soft sales of Boxsters have been this year I'd be surprised if you couldn't get an order in now. Most years you can get current year orders until almost April that then result in June/July builds. However I think what would might hold the greatest sway will be money. I'd find out how much of an increase in price will be coming with the 08's. I'm not sure what dealer you are working with here in the Bay Area, but if your interested I can PM you the info on my salesperson who was very good.

From what I know the facelift is coming in MY09.

    Re: July build dilemma

Wait for the '08 model because you'll pay the same price -- I assume -- and have a car that's worth more than an '07. (Of course, I know that's easy to say when you're itching to get your hands on the car. A lot of us have been there.) To my mind, an '07 delivered in July is approaching leftover status. I had a similar situation with my '05, ordered in March with a late May-early June delivery date. It sat on a dock for a month and was finally delivered in late July after I located my PCNA zone rep and stamped my feet. PCNA simply ignored my contention that the car had lost value during the delay.

If you don't care about having an '08 and are flexible on colors and dealer location, shop around for an '07 in stock. While I was waiting (and fuming), I shopped around and found a great car with about $4K more options than my ordered car for about the same price I was paying. I had two weeks to go before my current dealer contract expired and would have bought the second car if the first had not arrived within that time period. (If I had tried to get out of the contract sooner, my dealer -- with whom I'd never transact business again -- was ready to fight tooth and nail to keep the $2,500 deposit and perhaps ask for more in damages.)

Good luck on whatever you choose. I think it's a shame that, with the cost of Porsches and their mediocre dealer service, that they have to add insult to injury with these kinds of delays.

    Re: July build dilemma

Why don't you buy an '05-'06 CPO car to bridge the gap and sell it in two years?

    Re: July build dilemma

you can receive '08 models on august of '07. Because my 07 Boxster S delivered on mid/late august of '06. I ordered my car on may, but dealer missed and couldn't put my order for may production, so it got delayed and put into june/july production. I think factory build some of new year models on july and send some of new year models before they go onto august vacation.

    Re: July build dilemma

what are the supposed differences in MY08 vs the current MY07 ?

    Re: July build dilemma

My 997 was a July 2006 build, delivered to me in August 2006, and is MY 07.
