ok, so is it a C2S or a C4S? according to the first post it is a C2S, thus how did you fit a widebody rear bumper on a C2S?

Turbo, C4 and C4S all have _same_ track and width. Approx one inch wider than C2 C2S.

Yes... thanks for pointing that out... that really answered my question

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

It is a C2S the turbo bumper has to be modifed to fit a C2S hope this helps

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Gornalad, if you don't mind, how much does a turbo wing/decklid conversion cost anyway?

Sorry to be so blunt. I've been thinking though. There are no intercoolers on the 997/S so why would you want those vents on the sides?

996 C4Ss had 'em too, right? No intercoolers there either. Not arguing ... just pointing out that Porsche could have added the vents to the 997 C4S and we all would have probably considered it in keeping with the previous model's aesthetic design. Just a thought...

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Pounds1500 for wing secondhand + Pounds300 for paint I did mods to filter box myself not many secondhands ones out there

In fact, the 996 C4S did have the wide butt, but didn't have the vents.

This thread is soon qualifying as the "Stupid Thread of the Month". Are some people just writing any crap to get their message count up?

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Pretty sure it did have the vents on the side...in fact I think it had everything the 996 turbo had except the rear wing....and the turbo's ofcourse.....

    Thanks, that answered my question.

How did you modify the bumper? I don't see an easy way of making it 44mm narrower to fit the C2S body.

No scoop in front of the rear wheels for the C4S!

    There goes my message count!!!

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Given that Gornalad seems to have done some of the work himself and did not just shovel money I must say I am impressed. It may not be original but he had a vision and saw it through with courage and some sweat. I have to admire that and therefore I think it looks great!

It would have been interesting without the Turbo tail though as I have always love the look of the old Turbo body (76-89) without the wing. They look attached to the road!

To be pedantic, the scoop was there, but it was filled.

Look up close at a 996 C4S and you'll notice that there is a flat surface in the middle of the curved "hips" of the car, where the scoop is supposed to be. This would look like an aftermarket job if it wasn't actually OEM.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Yes, as Nad's photo above shows the 996 C2S has vents on rear bumper.

Anybody remember why they are there?

HUH? There're no scoops in front of rear tires for a 996 C4S. Must be a brain stall.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

So i understand that you can fitt the back exactly like a turbo! Do the exhaust tips fitt exactly in the holes of the bumper? Any modifications there?

But what about the front? Does it fitt? How about the LED because they use a different tipe of electical impulse? Did you do this?

    Thanks

    P.S. It looks really great.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

From what I understand from the OPC...the standard dual exhaust tips fit without a problem...they are not sure about the PSE tips.....they are investigating and will let me know shortly....but the OEM bumper is a staight swap on a C4 and C4s and the cost here in the UK is about Pounds1500 incl parts and labour. I think the mod would differentiate the car nicely from the rest of the range (as it did for the 996 C4s)....its a shame they didnt do something like this as part of the original design.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

when the bumper is on it sticks pass the wheel arch by only 10mm each side need a bit of body shopwork there..

Read again carefully (or maybe I was not clear enough). Of course the 996 C4S has no scoop in front of the rear wheels. BUT what I was saying is that it looks like Porsche took a Turbo body and covered the hole with a small, flat steel panel.
Look at this area very carefully on the next 996 C4S you can find and you'll see what I mean. I can actually see it on the picture you posted, from the way the light is reflected by the car: the flat area stands out from the curved hips around it.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

heres one without the turbo tail & 20" techart wheels

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Is it possible to get a shot of the whole side profile of the car....I am actually interested in seeing how it would balance with a regular stock front end?

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Sorry the only picture I have to hand of the side is this one I have no full side shots without rear wing and when that was taken I had a GT3 front end on it so it probably wouldnt help you, i will get some better ones over the weekend. SORRY ITS DIRTY

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

Tell us about the front bumper! How did you fitt it? Any problems?

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

I think it actually looks pretty nice. At first, I was thinking "why would anyone want to do that?", but you now have a pretty unique car. Moreover, I've always thought the least beautiful part of the TT was the huge air scoops in front of the rear wheels.
Your car does not have them and looks like what a genuine C2S/C4S should have looked like.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

The bumper fits without to many problems, two problem areas LED indicators and Air Ducts. The air ducts have modified so as to make one good set out of the new and orginal.Hopfully someone will bring out a conversion set,the indicators isn't sorted yet I waiting for a turbo front loom from porsche so I can wire in the indicator control units(X2) currently i'm using the side lights of the LED units with a orange bulb as the indicator. When its sorted I will post then answers for anyone who is interested

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

I am interested. If you can post the exact parts used to make the led work it would be great. I talked to my dealer and he doesn't know how to make the modifications. Thanks a lot.

A shame indeed -- though I wonder whether the PSE tips would look a little "odd" with the turbo bumper cover and its already odd exhaust cutouts. Sounds like a good photoshop opportunity for someone with better skills than me.

See gornalad's photos at beginning of this thread. Not PSE but close enough to see they look pretty good. Might look less good with lighter car color; i.e more contrast so you'd see they don't _exactly_ match.

I've just realized that different people are referring to different intercooler vents.

I - among others - thought that the reference was to the intercooler inlet vents on the steel body side panel. I now recognize that others had the intercooler outlet vents in the rear bumper in mind.

As far as post count is concerned, I'm trying to get myself a life and keep my count down, but rennteam.com somehow seems to be addictive.

Re: turbo bumper on a C4s

This is a terrific modification with creativity - nice work!
