Carlos, here is a great technical article on the VW/Audi DSG transmission. (Starts about halfway down).

    http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/article_317.shtml

Thanks Mike, its very informative. I think I remember already reading it when DSG was introduced, either this one or another one from this VW site, but I think its this one because I remember they talked about how it was developed initially in racing, however I found it funny they forget to mention it was Porsche who first developed it, in their 956/962 race cars in the 80's called PDK, and then later raced by AUDI

"is a direct result of racing technology from 20 years ago coming down to consumer levels. Volkswagen has applied for numerous patents on this transmission..."

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

What happened to the steering weel???The guy stole it from an Andi A8 or what???

    Great photos mate JSeven

Is it me or the steering weel of these one is diferent from the yellow one that was posted last week???

    Woshhhh........

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

I don't like the interior, the steering wheel is hiddeous and the center console look bulky and very busy with lots of buttons, the seats look ok.

    Can I have a 997 with a 993 dash please...

Where are the dreaded cupholders? Are Porsche owners latte drinkers or redbull drinkers?

I'm sure when 997 facelift comes out the interior will be different

From the DSG article.... This means that DSG can fire off an upshift in .008 seconds whereas BMW's SMG takes .8 seconds to make the same shift

Upshift in 0.008 seconds?? I'll have some of that.

Wonder if it downshifts fast too... My friend's Modena would hesitate on downshifts, in even sport mode.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

Once again, the 997 looks great.

However, i think that red doesn't really favour the car... The best i've seen til now is that seal grey, it really is superb.

About the interiours, it looks good, but is it just me or is it too luxurious and very little "S"? Maybe is that beige color that makes this sensation.
The steering wheel i think it could be more "hardcore", with less chrome, but i guess we'll have to see it live to make true opinions.
None than that, it looks really great.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

what about the top center analog clock? Is that from Infinity or maybe is a Breitling like the Bentley one. What the heck is Porsche thinking mounting an analog clock on top of the dash in a Carrera. Is that goint to be an option on the oncoming GT3 RS?

Once againg I didn't see the cupholders, American buyers can't live without them, but I think Porsche is waiting for Starbuck to subside these?

And what abot the phone? Once again Porsche in the dark ages, I still remember our 2002 Turbos coming with cassette holders ?!?!? Now the have that stupid phoe there. Most states and maybe even countries will now ban holding a phone while driving, first of all, but most important in the future everything will come wireless, why is Porsche installing that stupid phone there? Install a Blutooth thingy or something not that phone from the 80's.

Porsche, Porsche, Porsche, why don't you wake up and smell the coffee... I can make the coffe for you Porsche... now that I don't work for Porsche Puebla and con AG no problem... but please do coherent things...

All I ask is a little patience. As Strebel said...you'll be surprised.

    Yes.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

Is it just me or do both cars (the yellow C2 and the red S) look alike.
I cant figure out which of both has the wide, resp. narrow, body. Obviously it has to be the S model. But then, is the yellow car an S too? On its back it only says "Carrera".

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

The normal carreras seen on spy shots seem to have only two exhaust pipes and normal triangular 3-spoke steering wheel, and the carrera"S" have quad pipes and roundish steering wheel. So the red one should be carreraS and the yellow normal carrera, but you are right, the S doesn't look much wider to me either.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

    Maybe it isn't any wider?

The red one is the "S", the yellow one is the 997 Carrera.
Both cars have the SAME body, there is no difference in width.
The "S" has a sportier setup, more details to follow soon.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

Thx for telling. Will the Turbo and the C4S have the same width?

Are you kidding? Both cars will be available in about 2-3 years, I'm no fortune teller.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

Hehe, I got carried away with my questions...

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

The watch isn't a watch... look on it!

I see two buttons for the windows, but where will a convertible have the other two buttons ???

... still not comfotable with the interior, way to much Audi!

Will any information about the 997 C4 be released tomorrow?

No. The 997 C4 is due next year (summer?). There also have been thoughts at PAG to abandon a C4 and offer a C4 S only instead. I don't know how far those "thoughts" went but right now I don't have more info. Sorry.

Ok, thank you Christian, I guess I will have to wait

What I want to find out is if there's going to be an S-version of the 997 C4 (a 997 S with 4 wd if you like) or if we have to wait 2-3 years for the 997 C4S (with the Turbo bodystyle like the 996 C4S).

But looking forward to tomorrow anyway

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

    J7,
Thanks for the pics, these are great.

I like the red, from these shots, and I like the widebody. Can't wait to get one. May have to rethink my buying plans.

Re: More 997 Pics, this time he brought the 997 S home

    Great pictures, thanks.

RC, if thinking way out of the box (sorry if the question has been brought up already) could the double exaust mean that they have put 8 pistons in that S model ??
