    Can a modified TT compete?

Can a modified TT compete with a GT2 on a track or given road course? Can an advantage in hp/torque overcome a GT2's inherent advantages in weight and rwd vs awd dynamics? I know that a number of European and Australian race teams field a TT in various series. How do they fair overall and specifically against GT2's? Hard to believe that they would not be able to compete at some level.

Re: Can a modified TT compete?

I'm pretty sure it can, given it has enough power and a good driver. And yes, the driver is very important.
A friend of mine owns a tuned 996 Turbo with almost 600 HP. On the race track, there is no GT3 and no GT2 which can cope with him, especially on the straights. But he also has the advantage of putting all the power on the street shortly after exiting a curve. Very impressive when you watch.
With a highly professional driver, the GT2 definetely has an advantage but for the avarage track driver, the TT is really the beast to go for, especially when power is upgraded too.

Re: Can a modified TT compete?

Sure, depends "how much" modded, a Gemballa GTR650EVO (7:32 ring lap time) will run circles around a GT2, but then again there is not much left in common with a stock TT its based on

Well this really depends on the layout of the track. Do we talk about one or two fast laps? Are you interested in 45min sessions? If your TT has 'just' more power you will get into serious trouble regarding brakes and tires. At least if you are doing 10min or longer sessions.

    Cheers

Re: Can a modified TT compete?

Thanks for your input guys. I was looking for some validation as I have a modded TT that simply amazes me even when driven at 8 or 9/10ths. Compared to modded Carreras, TT x50, M3's and M5's my modded turbo blows them away. I was hoping that one did not need to have CJV's level of modification to equalize the equation. However, I was beginning to be swayed by all the raves I've heard with the GT2 and 3(never driven one) and wondered if my platform could ever compete outside of a straight line. I worried that the weight differential, suspension dynamics and rwd vs awd was too much to overcome. Its good to hear that there are those who believe the TT can be sorted to compete.

Re: Can a modified TT compete?

Thanks for your feedback Thomas. I've actually improved my brakes(experienced fade with stock units), suspension/wheels/tires along with engine mods and feel the package is fairly well balanced at this point. I suspect the the inefficiencies related to weight will conspire against me during longer sessions. I just want to know that I could compete with a well sorted GT2 on a track or road course (typically 30 minute sessions). I guess there is only one way to find out. The car will be tracked 6-10times per year but will be used semi-regularly on the street. Again, I'm intrigued by the raves the GT2 and 3 are getting in terms of driver feel and have been second guessing my platform.

Re: Can a modified TT compete?

Do you know if the Manthey Racing or Altzen Porsche Turbo compete in AWD mode or converted to RWD? Are there any road race teams utilizing the AWD format? It is telling that the n'ring and hoc record Porsche Turbo times by Gemballa and Techart are done with RWD cars? Seems like weight is a significant issue against the AWD in these situations.

Re: Can a modified TT compete?

I think that the problem at the track is overheating of front diff.
