    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

If your P -fix has been appetized then go for the Audi (why not the M5-M6 though) , it is so much more practical for the family man...

    Congrats...

Oh, THAT's IT. I thought it was from this:

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

No matter how much you may love the Audi, never buy the first year of a new model from any manufacturer. Even though it may be extensively tested and thoroughly engineered, there will always be problems that emerge when the vehicle is put into production and placed in the public's hands. Let someone else find the problem areas.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

I bought a BMW 750i Sport after owning an M3 CSL. Had it less than 3 months. Biggest mistake ever. Big powerful sedans look impressive but will not entertain you no matter how fast they are in a straight line.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

Easy. Buy the Audi. Park it outside. Chuck the kid's toys in it, the dog rug (do you do dog rugs in the US?), go shopping in it, stick a roofrack on it for skiing etc, and keep the P-Car for...

    ...pure unadulterated fun.

All the best with your decision. Whatever you do, as I think everyone before me has said with more eloquence than I can muster, please don't assume the Audi can replace your 997. Otherwise you will be pretty pissed.

Until you get another 997, that is. And that might be a bit expensive. Unless you can afford it and get a GT3, in which case I would be really pissed.

    Good luck,

    SoS.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

That is too subjective a question for anyone but you to answer - IMHO.

    Cheers,

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

I wouldnt trade my Porsche for an Audi, but its your decision....personal preference, in my eyes a real man drives a Porsche, ha ha!!! I dunno!!!!

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

Wait until you can afford a whole Gallardo rather than just the engine - until enjoy the brilliance of the 997S!

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

My father drives the new S8 and I drive a 997S.

If you let your left brain* decide the answer is easy; the S8 is powerful, seats 4 adults comfortably, provides a lot of trunk space, performs well in snowy conditions, sports an even more refined finish and superior features (think Adaptive Cruise Control or fingerprint recognition) yet very few people will notice that you drive an expensive car.

Your right brain is probably as easily swayed by the 911, the looks and sounds and the way the car handles.

In the end I think it's easy. If carrying 3 or more people or a lot of luggage is a real objective you don't have a choice. If it's not you have one but it's easy

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

I HAVE A 997 TURBO AND THE S8 AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH
I HAVE MORE FUN TO DRIVE THE S8.
THE S8 IS THE BEST CAR I EVER HAD AND IT IS FAST.
WHEN I WOULD HAVE ONLY ONE CAR I WOULD GET THE S8.

I would suggest you have no idea how to drive the Turbo properly then if you think the S8 is more fun !

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

It all depends on whether you want to drive a sports car or a big sedan. The S8 is wonderful. The 997 is wonderful. They're just different-wonderful.

I just don't know that it's possible to drive any 911 properly in my city without seriously breaking the law. I'd like to have time to track it but I have two young children a wife and a career. On any open US highways I gaurantee the S8 can give the 911 a run for its money. On the track the S8 is dead meat.

I like the idea of owning the S8 for the real world driving. I can continue to attend Porsche Driving Experience Schools in Birmingham, Alabama. I've done three and loved them. I'm thinking once a year I can leave responsibilty behind and flog a 911 on the track. And it'll be more economical than owning a 911.

We just picked up an Audi Q7 for my wife (getting rid of a GMC Yukon and an Audi allroad for the Q). I have to tell you, the technology is mind blowing. Audi's MMI is an amazing operating system.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

Call me a traditionalist. How can driving a powerful automatic car of any kind be described as fun?

Give me a manual 911 of any kind or any year. That is what I call pure driving pleasure.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

Sounds like you're tilting toward the Audi... that's cool.. especially if you're doing 10-hour drives to business meetings, I'd say go for the S8..... or better yet wait for the RS6 (i'm not up to snuff on Audi, are double clutch paddle-shift planned for those?) . Then shop for a low mileage 997GT3 when you figure a way to add another indoor parking space.

btw FWIW this thread has got me all of the sudden paying attention to the Audi S-cars....noticed a black/black S8 listed in current Autoweek classifieds.. at a dealer in Schaumberg, IL.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

i think those 2 cars are uncomparable.
one is a pure sports car, the other is very capable sports saloon.

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

I would never trade my car for a sedan.... The driving dynamics of a C2 S are uncomparable. NOw if your wife shouts about a bigger boot for her luggage... then buy her an MB ML 63 AMG and you will get pretty the same as audi. A great straight line accelarator. I think that no other car has the feedback of a porsche and thats something we all know.. If not keep one outside tha garage (the audi...)

    Re: Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S in for a 2007 Audi S8?

if money is not really an issue, do as many suggested
Buy the S8 for family use and keep the 911 for real driving

One of these should and could stay outside. If something occurs, you said it.
    Money is not an issue.

    Have fun !
