    What kind of motor oil do I use for F430?

    As stated in the subject, what kind of oil am I supposed to use for the car? Checked the levels today and it's slightly low. Can't find the right manual either Does it make a difference to check the oil level when it's hot or cold?

    Yes,the oil level depends on the temperature of the oil.The manuel should give you informations on how to check the oil level of your car.

    Always use the oil that is recommended by the manufacturer.
    But if you use your car only on a track or if you live in an extremly cold or hot area then you should chose a different type of oil.

    Hi Walter,

    Yes I've gone through all the manuals, but I think I'm passing the right page, I have about 4 manuals with 4 different languages in each of them. It's quite tiresome going through them all.

    Wish they had a sticker in the engine bay to specify which kind I oil I am supposed to use. I know it's Shell that is all - lol!!

    Hers's how to measure the oil, always do this when engine is warm.

    Damn, I bought Shell Helix "Monograde" Oil SAE-40

    I should probably stick to Shell Helix Ultra right? Would it really be that significant?

    I would say you definitely would not want to go with a single grade oil, way too thick at startup, which is when most of the wear happens.

    Thanks for the advice Gary. I will continue searching for the recommended oil. I was searching on the Shell website to find who supplies the Ultra Oil and limited places stock it. So I'm going to have to drive around 80 miles for oil

    mike! oil quality is really important, a monograde wont work at all! if you dont find shell helix(i had the same problem in my G, couldnt find agip) i advise you to use either mobil synt S 5w40 , or synthetic castrol also 5w40. the important part is the viscosity(5w40). and i dont advise you to use mobil 1 0w40 , you will have crank noise on start up. some coutries have mobil 1 5w40, if thats the case in SA you could use it..

    As Dimitri already said, the viscosity is important. Find a 5w40 oil, no matter what brand (which oil is used often depends on the dealer). Ferrari recommends Shell, as they are partners in Formula 1 etc., but you can use any other brand.
