Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Maybe this is Tesla's future? I wouldn't underestimate Elon Musk.

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/07/07/technology/tesla-elon-musk-australia-world-biggest-lithium-ion-battery/index.html

They also sell solar panels (roofs), etc., so...

Tesla doesn't necessarily have to stay automotive tech.

I looked into the solar panel roof and priced it up. Might have done it since we are extending the summer house and could work on the whole roof at that occasion, unfortunately they are not really available yet and we have already poured the foundation so we scraped the solar idea. Anyhow the math is barely break even, you dont do it for the money.

Lately however, I am not quite sure what to do. My electricity/heating bill is around 10000 EUR a year, so maybe it would be wise to start to install some solar stuff...or sell the house and get a condo. Smiley

Not possible in my home (I am on a small hill and apparently it is not easily doable, already asked...).

It makes more sense to sell my house and buy something else (new). Not interested in a house anymore (told you before), I love a nice luxury condo with A/C and a lot of space. Cheaper to maintain and safer. Smiley

Weird: My McLaren neighbor still has his 12C Spider. Didn't talk to him for a while but he wanted a R8 V10 Plus Spyder or a Huracan Performante. Now I kind of get the feeling that he is going for a 720S Spider because otherwise he would have already sold his 12C (just a guess though).

What Musk has done is simply amazing. He started with a large fortune, went all in and still almost went bankrupt.

You can dislike the cars or the technology, but he did something everyone said was imposssible.

    That's the major problem.

It was selling well in HK only due to the fact that the government doesn't tax the car, so in effect they are selling at half price to comparable cars. Without the tax break it moves back into the proper bracket and no one wants to pay that price for such a car.

The charging infrastructure is also not there yet. Most people lives in apartments with common parking, HOA are hesitant to even let owners install their own chargers, because of the electricity cost that would be shared by the whole building. To charge a Tesla they go to public parking lots where there are charging stations, but sometimes there will be a lineup waiting.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

These are ridiculous reportings. They sold 3,000 cars in April before the change, as much as the last 6 months of 32016. Zero in April, duh, they sold them in March... This says nothing about future Tesla sales in HK except they will be lower since the price rose, the anomaly was the number of sales before, not what they will be...

Volvos is mostly talking hybrid in the near term... Tesla is still laughing about that probably.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Actually I was joking, for a change. But I just read this indecision

"Volvo also announced it would launch five new electric and hybrid cars between 2019 and 2021, and that two of those will be made by Polestar, which the company recently announced would become its own subsidiary and brand selling performance EVs, likely to compete with high-end Tesla models."

He is to be admired i agree. I don't know the figures but how much of the sale or ex factory price cost of a Tesla is subsidised by the government / tax payer in comparison to an old school car from Detroit which I know is also subsidised?

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

They might still get some zero emissions credits, but they were dwindling. Besides that, no idea.

I find it quite entertaining that VW CEO express a statement like. "We can stop Tesla". It's just a different way of saying that Tesla are doing things right and that transition to EVs will move as quick as possible.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Interesting lecture regarding disruptive tech changes and why the transition to BEVs will move much faster than many predictions...

I find it quite stupid that the VW CEO actually says something like that. I get it, he probably gets bombarded by politicians, colleagues, unions, etc. every single day about how Tesla is the future and how successful they are but it seems to have created some sort of complex. Smiley

VW should pursue their ELV course (if they have one Smiley) at a fast(er) pace and they shouldn't necessarily look at Tesla. VW cannot beat Tesla in the US, nobody buys a VW ELV instead of a Tesla in the US, VWs reputation is too damaged for that and they never really had a very good reputation in the US to begin with.

Audi, Porsche? Different story. Yes, I think they can "beat" Tesla but only with a "normal" design (not too exaggerated or ugly), attractive tech and especially new and maybe even innovative charging and battery tech.

I said it before: Tesla is done at some point (unless they come up with something revolutionary) but copying Tesla won't help the current car manufacturers to really penetrate the markets.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

The real issue is the selling price point and conservation of margins. TSLA shareholders are not that focused on profits yet as the company is treated like a tech startup, but VW group and others simply cannot sell today EV cars at a competitive price without destroying margins. That's also why they want Tesla to fail. I think they are afraid, very afraid because EV are coming faster than anticipated, just look in this forum how many have made the jump and love it. I almost did it but didn't because there was no X 100D model, only P100D, but that has now changed, there is a faster 100D model than before and some hardware is getting better every 6 months (unlike traditional car manufacturers that only upgrade their car every 3-4 years).

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

EV's are coming faster than anticipated and battery shortages will be greater than expected. Tesla has a yuuge jump on the competition, even-though they need to improve their interiors and driving dynamics.

One can consider Tesla right now is like the muscle cars of 60s.

Shit interior, can't corner but it will go real fast in a straight line, which by all accounts, is the only thing most American cares.

Pretty sure the Germans will do EV with agility, something that handles AND with a nice interior, in addition to straight line performance. Sort of like the old import sports cars displacing the muscle cars in the old days.

    History is repeating itself.
