I find it quite entertaining that VW CEO express a statement like. "We can stop Tesla". It's just a different way of saying that Tesla are doing things right and that transition to EVs will move as quick as possible.
I find it quite stupid that the VW CEO actually says something like that. I get it, he probably gets bombarded by politicians, colleagues, unions, etc. every single day about how Tesla is the future and how successful they are but it seems to have created some sort of complex.
VW should pursue their ELV course (if they have one ) at a fast(er) pace and they shouldn't necessarily look at Tesla. VW cannot beat Tesla in the US, nobody buys a VW ELV instead of a Tesla in the US, VWs reputation is too damaged for that and they never really had a very good reputation in the US to begin with.
Audi, Porsche? Different story. Yes, I think they can "beat" Tesla but only with a "normal" design (not too exaggerated or ugly), attractive tech and especially new and maybe even innovative charging and battery tech.
I said it before: Tesla is done at some point (unless they come up with something revolutionary) but copying Tesla won't help the current car manufacturers to really penetrate the markets.
