    AMV8 vs 997 C4S

    It has been said several times on this forum, that AMV8 is maybe one of best looking car at the moment, and compared to 997, Porsche stand no chance. I have said that several times in the passed too.
    Well, two days ago I was at a car wash station and there were parked side by side a AMV8 and 997C4S Cab. Guys, I just can tell you the 997C4S looked so much atheletic and eye catcher(don't know if this is the right word) than AM. Manely from 3/4 behind, Porsche looked so much more elegant, agressive and wider.
    I was amazed, I always though there were no Porsche model who could beat this AM regarding looks, but seeing them side by side made me change my mind, 997 was the clear winner.
    About the interior, well, maybe on 2020 Porsche will get there cause the AM is just from another world compared to any Porsche, best looking cabin on the market, period.

    I just saw I navy blue AMV8 about an hour ago,
    was the most beautiful car I have ever seen.
    First time I have seen one driving, such a classic shape.

    Everyone has their own opinion but I think the AMV8 is
    the most beautiful car on the market at the moment

    Lines fall in place better on the AM V8 IMHO. One of the best looking cars in long time. My friend just picked up his and had a chance to drive it. Not as much road feel as 911, but the sounds and feel of the cabin make up for it. Love the car...Let me see for my next car AM, R8!?!? Porsche may have to sit on the sidelines for this one.

    The v8 vantage is just as nice as the DB9, in fact the vantage has more sporty looks. Although the things change DRASTICALLY, when you press the DB9 start engine vs the Vantage...The DB9 is completely planets ahead, what an amazing start, it is like a dragon .....
    The big BUT of the db9 its is price range, so that's why v8vantage is better

    By the way LB, from what part of spain are you?? if you dont mind asking !

    What amazes me about AM is that with each new model they launch, the cars in their line up which previously dazzled us start to look IMO less dazzling.

    When the DB7 came out, I thought it was the s*xiest car ever designed. Then when the DB9 came out, I was lost for words. It was simply perfect. Then the V8 Vantage came out and the DB9 looked tame by comparison. Where will it end? I wonder what they have in mind next? Their designers speak a design language which I can't speak myself but which I can really appreciate the results of.

    I think the DBS is simply overwhelming. I went to see Casino Royale twice just to see that car.

    All I have heard about the Vanquish, the Vanquish S and the DB9 is that they are not reliable. However the V8 Vantage is well built (I have heard)....

    A very difficult choice - 911 probably the better drive, easier to live with maybe as a daily drive, functional but somehow bland styling, certainly the more economical to buy and run v. the AMV8 with its stunning looks both inside and out, that wild exhaust note and the mystique of the name which can only be second to Ferrari... It'd come down to the toss of a coin for me I think. Except if I chose the Porsche I'd have the C2S rather than the C4S.

    guys I would choose a 997S over a v8vantage.
    And we have test-drove the vantage some months ago, it is a great car, but the 997S feels much more sporty, everything is more race feeling


    Although the looks of the V8 and the sound note is amazing, although as I said the DB9 sound is just epic compared to the v8 vantage, I personally started both engines (both inside the dealer) and believe me there is no comparison...Talking about this, I still prefer 997S sound, and even more 997S with PSE!!!

    Part of the equation, in terms of aesthetics, has to be familiarity.

    Does the eye fail to relish that which it gazes at so often? Does a beautiful women seem less ravishing after you've "tamed" her ?

    Any new car that has aesthetic appeal really holds the edge over the old guard at first. I can think of the F430 which was annointed the most beautiful pece of machinery ever, only to shift its throne to the Gallardo. Now some call the 430 vulgar and ricery... Depends on the eye maybe? Is any of this fair?

    Granted, there are some basic funamental principles for aesthetic prowess. Many pseudo-scientific inquiries claim to attribute beauty to mathematical proportionality and such. The AMv8 really looks like a winner, as do many other Astons. The 911's exotic appeal really is diminished by the daily wear and tear our eyes seem to put on it, but I still think its a beaut. The 4S is great from the 3/4 view, as J Seven pointed out. It really accentuates its widebody hips.

    However, I think many of us find the v8's cleaner lines just more organic than the curvey 911. It's a luxury a designer has when he or she is not hampered by lineage.

    All I can say about this is that pictures dont do justice to either of them

    I hear you DC, nest time let SWMBO drive, take Jools in the passenger seat and I'll treat you to a blast in the V8

    Both brilliant cars, and I agree with most sentiments that objectively the 911 is the best drivers car, but within my driving skills they are a match and the whole AM experience won me over.... this time...

    Of course, opening the garage to this each morning doesn't hurt (sorry for the repost I'm sure you'll all forgive me!)

    I give the 997 my vote over the aston V8. I saw one in person last summer at night at a vacation spot. It was a letdown from the pics I had seen of it. I was not as excited as I thought i would be.

    It did not have the presence of my car especially at night with the headlights on. The best aston is still the Vanquish S/ DBS. I guess I get the best of both worlds with V8 sound and timeless porsche design and build.

    Edit: That pic above is nice and we are comparing exceptional cars. All of which would be great fun to drive. Keep the pics coming.

    997 vs AMV8, you have to take the Porsche. DB9 is another story, if you are looking for a GT and money is abound, the DB9 is stunning. But I couldn't get over the fact it is not as fun to drive as my 4 year old 996, I am too young. That sound and these lines though...

    I'd take a nicely equipped C4S anyday.

    DB9 is another story tho.

    The thing is , when I get a chance to own SL55, why should I even consider SLK55??

    My thoughts exactly! When the first AM dealer opened here this year. I went straight to go have a look at the Aston Martins. I test drove the V8 Vantage, DB9 and Vanquish S. I would have to say the DB9 was clearly my favourite. The Vantage is too small and doesn't have the road prescence for me, even after a couple drove past. Don't get me wrong, the Vantage is a great looking car...(I still don't like that bee sting aerial on such an expensive car ) The DB9 sounded great and felt great to drive. The Vanquish just felt too dated and slightly underpowered for what they claim.

    Having driven all those cars, after when I went home driving in the Carrera. I was so glad I bought the 997 C2S Cab over a Vantage.

    The Vantage does have a killer interior though

    This is the best comparison picture if you ask me, posted by a (former?) Rennteam member a couple of years ago. In this picture the Vantage looks like a spaceship and the 997 like a 1962 Beetle

    hello Rich, what I wrote doesnt mean that the AMV8 is a car that I dont like, its completely the way round!!!...you know everyone loves it !!

    That pic you posted just simbolizes the front of a space shuttle , it is probably one of the best cars in design, great interior, great materials, and I specially loved those leds in the rear and front lights, ala space shuttle like I said !!

    May be you should install an aftermarket exhaust, but then again I think you modified something to open more the exhaust right???


    Mike you even test-drove the vanquish , there was no vanquish in the dealer when we went , but the db9 completely made me smiled and go surprised, I have the video of that, and you can listen some nice spanish sentences of surprised !!!

    Lorenzo, in case you didnt saw my post some weeks ago, we test -drove a jaguar xk 4.2liter..I really liked the car, very nice cold start, just exactly the same as an aston martin, but when the engine warms that magic goes a little bit down, I think the jaguar needs a little modification in the exhaust , anyway it is a great car, great design, but when it comes to porsche , well....porsche is porsche !

    I have to say that we test-drove the car for 2hours only, and car was consuming 22.1liters per 100km , you can imagine the good use it had with us ! , the paddle shifts WHERE GREAT(I persinally never drived a paddle shift gearbox, so I assume magnetti marelli for the f360 and f430 has to be epic).

    One more question, those pics are from C.de Salamanca dealer??, there was an exact car here in the dealer we went (majadahonda), that was also for sale, and full of dust, parked besides some range rovers sports
