    997 TT Facelift?

I was reading over on the 997 forum, and, apparently there is a fascelift coming for the 997 this summer. LED Rear Lights, Active Xenon's & PDK + new bumper. Rumour has it the TT will also get these upgrades (maybe not a bumper)...given I have a tip TT coming in Feb, I am a bit concerned...anybody heard anything about this? Thx.

The 997 facelift is due in calendar year 2008 (not next year)...

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

The facelift won't effect the TT.

Hopefully... I do not have precise information regarding this question

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

I would think that at least the active HID's and LED tails would make it into the TT.

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

this is what I want to know, will current TT owners have a dated car in ONE year?

Regarding the LED tail lights (and other minor updates) I would expect a probability in excess of 50%.

Well, if current targa drivers - a model that's even newer than the turbo - will have a dated car in one year, I guess it won't be different in case of the turbo.

At least the turbo already has the LED at the front, so I guess we will only see new LED rear lights.

Rossi- as usual good point, but at least if you want a turbo to mod yourself or otherwise just want a good deal, the first 2006/2007 cars should drop in price!

I find hard to believe they will only come in 2008, facelift cars are ready for the market, I don't believe Porsche will waite till 2008 to release them, just my guess.

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

imo....things seldom get better in facelift... more contrived perhaps...i think the boxster is a great example of this design forward thinking as it has evolved

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

I don't think the facelift will come that soon. The GT3, GT3RS, Targa and turbos have been in showrooms for less than a year. Getting the facelift in 2007 or even 2008 sounds like a stupid move IMHO. When you look at the changes (front and rear bumper, tail lights) those who bought one of the car mentionned above won't understand it. Porsche has never done such thing in the past. Why would they do that with the 997. They surely don't want any angry customers knoking on their doors.

That said, I don't really understand why they let those facelifted 911 drive around with almost no camo. The GT2 is not even out yet, and it doesn't seem like it's gonna get the new LED tail lights. Or is it? The situaion is pretty confusing but from a marketing point of view, porsche should wait at least another year, maybe even 2, before releasing the facelift. On the other hand, changes do not seem to be big. So some would say why not?

As a big commercial company, wich porsche has beome in the past few years, I don't see the move as the right one. Porsche AG should wait. Just my 2 cents.

FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME...refresh is for MY2008 which begins with Sept '07 production FWIW

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

Thank you Stubenhocker! I thought I was going nuts, since there have been numerous posts about the MY2008 facelift, which will be introduced at the September 2007 Frankfurt Show. And the facelift will not apply to the Turbo, at least in total, although some improvements will (as always) be made...

    Wrong

Honestly, the press is full of confirmations that the facelift will happen in calendar year 2008 (MY2009). GT2 presentation will be in September 2007 (IAA), first customer cars to be delivered end of 2007. The 997TT cab will be presented in May 2007.

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

The press probably merely repeats the rumors that we can read here!

AFAIK the 997 is getting the AWD system from the Turbo, and PDK next Fall. Since I prefer the current front bumper to the one we saw on spy pics, it's no loss if the facelift comes one year later.

Re: the Turbo, it's probably getting LED rear lights (and not necessarily with the new shape) and the active front bumper (not necessarily with a new shape either).

Traditionally, the normally aspirated cars get a facelift to look more like the Turbo, not the other way around.

When it comes in 2008, I'm afraid it will.
At least LED tail lights...if not the complete "new" design of the 997 Carrera tail lights.

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

Would argue much bigger value risk for prospective/existing owners of 997TT is timing of PDK intro and early reviews/specs of PDK perf.....?MY/CY08

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

Regardless of when the 997 gets the facelift, the TT will get it too.

You see, last time around the TT was introduced 4 years after the 996, then the facelift 996 followed the TT, the TT then never changed, and that's what people remember.

This time, the TT was introduced only two years after the 997, so the facelift of the 997 has to make it to the Targa the same year, and to the TT no more than one year later (even that would be a marketing nightmare, no rear LED on a car 1.5 times the price...)

Anyway, developping new cars is taking less and less time for car manufacturers, thus we should expect to see changes more rapidely. This will force costumer to buy more often. But at the same time, depreciation will increase. Good for the company, bad for the costumer, but as the whole auto indusrtry moves that way, even Porsche cannot go against the trend. Anyway we see it all the time in the US, normal 3 year old cars go for less than 50% than new, my 5.5 year mint truck had depreciated 70%, people are rather buying something cheaper but new than better and used...

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

The 996 was introduced as MY99 and got a face lift MY02. On the same calendar the 997 was introduced as MY05 and will have a face lift as MY 08 (available sep 07. The Turbo should also inherent the changes as a matter of course, it all makes sense.

Besides, i do not understand the fuss about this. Many other marques introduce changes every single year, mostly minor as these ones.

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

The 997 Turbo cabrio and the Gt2 are not out again,is impossible they will have a refresh after an year of the introduction!!are cars that will costs over 160k!!!

maybe in 2008 the turbo/GT2 will take led rear tail lights, but with the same shape of the current one(and so easy retrofittable)..sound too strange they will change the rear bumper too in so short time!

and if they make it..i think they will loose a lot of customer

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

997 will receive a face-lift right before the Panamera launch so I suspect for MY09 let's say Sept 08 at the Paris Motor Show.

Why would they introduce a face-lifted version for MY 08 whilst for the current fiscal year (MY 07) they will reach an absolute record in terms of unit sales (36.5-37.0k units)???

I suspect they will wait until sales are starting to decline before "refreshing" the 997....

    Just my 2 cents

Perhaps tt cab and GT2 will already be presented with the new rear lights?

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

the GT2 and TC mules have the current Turbo rear lights and the same bumper plus the Gt2 have a new rear bumper with the same rear tail lights shape of the current cars...so..i dubt they will make debut with mods not tested on the mules(also minor mods was usually spotted on the mules from Porsche)

So...is not clear what will happen..only led taillights with same shape of current ones, all new rear end with different taillights and bumper(i dubt it) or no restyling??!?

    i vote for no restyling

Darius, your fear of model changes is legendary! You should enjoy your cars and not waste time with forebodings!

    Re: 997 TT Facelift

There's nothing as certain as death, taxes and car model changes.

The dates and extent of the facelift program were decided before the start of production. Sales are not the deciding factor, since everything was already decided before a single 997 was sold. It'd take a massive slump to reverse that decision.

Moreover, the decision to start the Panamera program was made definitive early 2005, i.e. once again after the decision to make a 997 facelift program was made.

There are two actual deciding factors. The lifespan of each model sets the year. The factory holidays (and the Paris/Frankfurt Motor Show) set the month.

Since the lifespan of Porsche sportscars is seven years plus one*, it follows that the facelift must come after three or four years. In other words, a MY 08 is still possible, but MY 09 is more likely. In fact, the content of the overhaul program are spread across MY 08 (new AWD + PDK) and MY 09 (new engines + optical changes).

    * By that I mean that each model is built for seven years, but it takes one more year to renew the entire model range. As a result, the last Turbo is built 8 years after the first Carrera is built.
