    Storing for the winter question

I'm going to be storing my car for 3-months during the winter and need to put the car up on jack-stands so I don't flat spot the tires.

    Anyone else do this?
If so, how do you jack the car up and get the jack-stands under while it's up in the air?
Does anyone out there just set their car on cement blocks (larger and more stable)?
    Thanks!

Re: Storing for the winter question

I STORE MY CAR FOR THE WINTER BY INFLATING TIRES TO 60 PSI AND PUTTING CARPET STAIR TREADS UNDER EACH TIRE. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS AND HAVE NOT HAD FLAT SPOTS ON THE TIRES. ALSO, DO NOT FORGET GET TO GET THE BATTERY TRICKLE CHARGER.

Re: Storing for the winter question

    Thanks Bobr!

Just one question, what are carpet stair treads? Are they just a small pieces of carpet under each tire?
Also, do you check the tire pressure periodically to ensure it stays at 60 psi? I have an air compressor so I can inflate the tires any time I need to and my garage isn't heated so the pressure will fluctuate.
    Thanks again.

Re: Storing for the winter question

    Your welcome....
The carpet stair treads are rectangular pieces of carpet that you put on stairs..HomeDepot has them...I check my tire pressure every two weeks and also will back the car out into the drive way on a nice sunny day.

Re: Storing for the winter question

    The owners manual states:
    1) fill up the tank
    2) inflate tires to 58 psi (do NOT put on jackstands - they provided a good reason which I forget)
    3) move the car a few inches every 4 weeks

Re: Storing for the winter question

actually porsche dosent recommend the use of jack stands ...over inflate tires to 58psi as suggested here...now does anyone have thoughts with respect to starting and the use of fuel stabilizer...i do know its definitely not a good thing to warmup to temp..thx

Re: Storing for the winter question

If you must use jack-stands place under suspension part so suspension carries car weight. Do not let wheels hang at bottom of their travel.e.g. do not only support car body

From what I recall it has to do with the suspension members usually housed under lumbricated boots, being exposed to the elements and rusting. When this happens corosion starts and it creates rough surphases that wear out O- rings as an example. Once it is put back into use with the metal now scored it constantly rubs against the seal, causing it to fail prematurely . There maybe other reasons as well.
