Almost how I would spec one.

But I would do black seats with yellow piping and stitching.

The damn yellow shield forced my hand into doing yellow accents.

You could always spec them with no shields.

Think of what that would do to resale value.

(do they still say that in the Ferrari dealership, that those are must?)

I don't think our friend Whoopsy is too concerned about that Smiley - that's why I suggested it .

I have seen other Ferraris without shield, and tried to picture a LaFerrari without shield, but the end result is that the cars doesn't look quite right missing the shield.

My manual 612 does not have a shield and it works very well, adds a touch of elegance.

But I have them on the California and they fir pretty well...

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

If you get the La Ferrari (I thought they stopped making themyes) get the shields. You will regret not getting them.

The regular LaFerrari are still in production, quite a number of cars for the China market are still up for grabs, those buyers bailed.

Airbrushed shield option is the way to go.

In any case, traditionally only real race cars had the shields. Now they are part of the design language of the brand.

Is it actually safe to go 350kph in the left lane during the day? I mean, isn't it possible someone going a mere 160kph pulls over to the left lane to pass and slowly accelerate more with their 3er, and didn't see you coming at 350kph?

Of course its dangerous as hell, but people are taking so high risks in favor of big adrenaline rush.

we all drive in germany like this.

this is normal. no big deal

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

In Germany, MOST drivers are well trained, they know what they are doing, in America, MOST drivers don't know what they are doing and hence much much more dangerous on American highway even at a much slower speed.

It's actually quite funny when going to a track day and then coming back into Los Angeles freeway traffic on the way home.  I feel far less sure about what a car near me will do on the freeway than on the track.

Had the same feeling after driving the unrestricted Autobahn in Germany this past October and then returning home.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

My wife and I moved from Wisconsin to Louisville, KY a couple years ago.  Apparently we were spoiled with the courtesy and "skill" of Wisconsin drivers because the ones here have seemingly no idea what they're doing.  It's incredibly frustrating.  My car insurance nearly doubled when we moved.  Turn signals are rarely, if ever, used.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

It will  get worse. The millennials are not taking drivers ed. ) more often than not, not offered) and show no interest in buying a car. They don't rush to DMV like most of us did when we turned 16 to get a drivers permit.

FWIW, the VERY WORST DRIVERS ARE EARLY BRAKER'S. They cause so many collisions.

Young people taking their driving lessons are less and less each year over here . Their is a disinterest in cars amounts the younger generation . They view it as a tool to go from A to B and are often happier with other alternatives .

We iilll get to the point where is car has nothing to do with driving anymore , but only with ' transport '

We will have two type of cars: Ones with autopilot for public roads and few for hard driving on track.

+1, this one and the like take their chances. As been said, just takes one car to pull to left, meaningful or unintentionally and its bye bye.....Smiley....

Actually, it is safer than at night (even a small cat could be disastrous at that speed...) in my opinion.

However, I have four rules for high speed driving:

    1. If there is more than one car on the right lane, I pass them relatively slow and vigilant.

    2. I never pass other cars at full speed, only if there is a third (at least) lane and the car is on the far right lane and I am on the far left one.

    3. I always turn my lights on when driving fast on the Autobahn, the daylight running lights are not enough!

    4. I only drive as fast as I can see, meaning that I can brake in time.

Most high speed drivers I know do not respect these rules and this is why accidents happen. Also, at those speeds, you better turn down the radio volume and do not get yourself distracted in any way!

The driver in the video wasn't too careful I'm afraid, here are the "mistakes" he made:

    2016-04-08_11-53-23.jpg
    2016-04-08_11-53-56.jpg
    2016-04-08_11-54-40.jpg
    2016-04-08_11-55-27.jpg
    2016-04-08_11-56-10.jpg

In all of the above videos he was in full speed over 300 kph (in the last one, he was in full acceleration).

This could have gone wrong in so many ways...

You might want to also consider your turbulence when passing motorcycles at high speed. The air behind your car can be pretty unsettling even on heavy bikes. I never thought about it until one time I was doing a indicated 160mph and passed a guy on a Honda Goldwing and then saw him swaying side to side.

Tell that to that crazy person on his (Hayabusa) bike, tailing me at over 300 kph with only one meter distance. Smiley

I let him pass me at around 320 or so (I was in my Turbo S then...) but he didn't have much speed left. I was really shocked how crazy that guy was...
