    Stable mate for TT?

So currently I'm enjoying my TT after my move to Philadelphia and my E46 M3 just arrived. Now I have a dilemma. Though I love the M3, I don't think I need two cars in the same vein and am thinking of trading in the M3 for a more practical vehicle (four doors, storage space, easier to park) city friendly vehicle; avoiding pot holes, cabbies, pedestrians, parallel parking etc...

What do you guys think? So far I've looked at Acura RDX, BMW X3 (BMWNA lease support for this vehicle is incredible). I've considered an Audi A3 but don't think a hatch back or wagon is really my thing.

    toyota FJ cruiser!

Thanks, for the suggestion, I did actually consider the FJ... looks like a fun vehicle, but the suicide rear doors kinda killed it for me.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

I'd get an Audi A6 wagon, but you're apparently looking for an SUV. How about a Lexus RX 450h? Would it get you access to the HOV lane in Philly?

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

SUV for winter driving. Range Rover Sport?

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

    New facelifted Cayenne?

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

    '07 X5 4.8 - that's definitely on my short list for a daily hauler...

Don't think there are HOV lanes here, unlike LA where I'm moving from. Thanks for the suggestion.

X5 is definitely a sweet ride, test drove one and BMW is going to do great with them. I really like the comestic changes as well, very aggresive looking.

About the Cayenne, Range Rover and X5 however, I'm assuming door dings, cramped city parking, etc will be the life for this vehicle. I'm afraid that if I get one of these vehicles I'd be anal about them as well. Thats why I'm looking in the 45k US range and below... kind of beater if you know what I mean.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

lx470...does it all, except speed of course , in all weather and in terrain that in hindsite probabally wasnt the best idea....in no rattles ever luxury....with a dealer network second to none except nothing is ever wrong with them....easy to resell imo

Then perhaps get something like a Chevy Tahoe - drive the cr*p out of it, park it in dodgy neighborhoods, tight spaces etc. Up at Lake Tahoe in the winter , trucks like Suburbans, Denalis, LX470s etc parked in front of the over $8 million lakefront homes outnumber the " pretty " Euro SUVs !

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

    Jeep Wrangler 4 door
    Q7
    ML500
    X3
    Mini Cooper

That was going to be my suggestion as well. I traded my A6 for a Lexus RX400H, and I wish I had gotten another A6.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

    Honda Pilot then.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

Thanks for all the suggestions all!!! Love the Q7 but its huge especially the TDI but we don't get that one here!!!! The Q5 looks like it will be killer and VW Tiguan as well but they are both a year away.

Looks like an X3 might be the way to go... small, quick... has the BMW feel... and the discounts and residuals being offered are pretty awesome... going to to dealer later today to see what they got.

PS: I'm surprised noone said keep the M3, hahaha

I did think about getting an american SUV but the ones I've driven seem too "truckish" and not nimble. I even toyed with the idea of getting an SRT8 and driving the snot out of it but the tires would not do very well in even the light snow we get here.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

just stick to the 3lt one...opposite my business there's a company and the owner has a black on black X3 3.0...I'd say it's sporty enough and it has the straight six noise...ok! not even close to your M3 but still typical enough of a BMW

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

my bad ...down here we've got more engines available whereas in the states, as I just checked out, you can only get the new 3.0 SI

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

Yeah, for 2007 BMW has cut it down to just one engine choice... I guessing that later in 2007 the 335 engine will make it in... that would be really quick.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

and let me just add...what a noise!!!

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

You're moving from Southern California to Philadelphia? Are you crazy?

    Just kidding.

LOL... not the first time I've been asked that question... Work related...

But there are some benefits... lower income taxes, lower property taxes... my mortgage is pretty much the same as the rent I was paying but is tax deductible... but oh yeah do I miss So Cal!!!

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

A little different, but a 530xiT (wagon) is a fun car as well. BMW has some killer lease rates on them (not quite X3ish, but close)

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

s4? awd capabilities with a little bit of comfort and luxury? I'm just not a fan of trucks

Life's too short to live in places w/awful, sportscar-unfriendly weather/roads/speed enfcmt and unremarkable chicks as non-CA locales ...but would argue Phila has comparable grub to LA's rather weak food.....

SUV/station wagons are for the non-engineering-oriented crowd anyway.....who wants rollovers and stuff launching from one's cargo area into passenger compartment in severe deceleration?????

Would beat on a 997TT during winter in Phila. And if need passenger/cargo cap would get an S550 4Matic....

Though still amazed how slummy Phila's allegedly-old money Villanova/Gladwyne 'burbs (and their commercial areas) are vs Chic's LkForest/Winnetka "downtowns" .....where's the upside for putting up w/the awful weather/lack of close-by, reasonably-enforced twisties, lack of style and the unremarkable grub?????

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

Thanks for all the suggestions all. I actually did go to Mercedes yesterday and drove the ML, CLS et al... will decide on Monday

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

Been heavily considering an A8/A8L to replace my E55. Have had a demo all weekend. Very smooth and lots of conveniences. Too bad the residuals on these are near Jaguar-bad.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

Thanks for all the suggestions all. Picked up a fully loaded X3 as my little city street fighter with grocery getting capability.

BMW support with high residuals combined with price discounts plus a good offer for my M3 won me over. I'm impressed with how the BMW "feel" translated to X3 with sport package.

    Re: Stable mate for TT?

Lease is up on the 04 E55, and we bounced around the idea of an A8L or a 911 cab, Maserati Spyder, 645Ci. Ended up getting the new CLK550 cab for the wife at invoice. Picking it up next Tues, white on amaretto interior. I was shocked to find out it is a 382hp N/A 7spd. It is very quick and has a mean exhaust note!
