    Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

I hope it's not a repost! This is going to be one mean car!

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

So you're getting one then? :d

    j/k

Love the styling of the front spoiler!

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

hot, smokin, sheer ecstasy, wowza, zoinks, boost junky heaven......

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

    Always nice to see.

Mike...now that you will have space in your garage I think this one should be on your list for 2007

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

Great to see it - thanks for posting these pics!

Even though I know I will never buy one of these - I need the practicality of rear seats plus I just feel safer knowing that I have the full assistance of PSM just in case I make a driving mistake - it just feels good knowing that, further up the range, there is a 'bigger brother' in the family to my Carrera S.

I had that feeling about the Carrera GT...that it led the way for the rest of the range.

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

The 997 GT2 is expected to have PSM. Rear seat belts and seats can be added. There are only two problems with this car: it is not yet for sale, and if it follows the 996 GT2, it will be overpriced.

After owning a C2S and a tuned Turbo, the new GT2 is the most alluring 911 to me.

Why is it expected that the GT2 has PSM while the GT3 has not?
Before the final GT3 press announcement there were several discussions whether GT3 and GT2 get PSM to make the car accessible to more customers. However, they did decide against it for the GT3. Therefore, I would not expect it for the GT2.

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

PSM? Okay - I am happy if I am mistaken. Seems odd to me though. I thought the 996 GT2 had no PSM at all and the 997 GT3 has PTM only. As such, I rather doubted whether Porsche would diminish the fun factor in the 997 GT2 by fitting safety aids like PSM. I thought the most they would offer is PTM akin to what is in the 997 GT3.

As for rear seats and rear seat belts, I would never add these to a car. In my view, such a car would no longer conform to the Type Approvals obtained by Porsche AG on an EU wide basis for every EU member state.

In the event of an accident, insurance companies would argue that this is an unauthorised modification i.e. they could argue that using these seat belts are equivalent to not using seat belts at all. I would be surprised if one's personal accident insurance or fully comprehensive car insurance policy would cover one for personal injuries suffered when using seats and seat belts fitted subsequently. After all, no crash testing has been done.

But leaving aside the issue of compensation which only helps after the injury is suffered. From the preventive angle, I would never take risks with my own family in the back seat.

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

Just to nitpick, the GT3 has Traction Control, not PTM. PTM is the name of the AWD system on the Turbo (and I believe the new Cayenne as well).

So far I'm afraid that the GT2 will NOT have PSM either. It appears Porsche was unable or unwilling to make it work with the aggressive lock rate of the LSD on the GT cars.

But who knows? They might still surprise us.

PSM for all in the USA!!

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

The GT2 is so silent compared to the CL or the R8.

In fact there are rumours ESP shall become mandatory on new vehicles offered in the US, isn't it?

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

It's silent b/c of the Turbo's. The Turbo on its own acts as a muffle and then the mufflers muffle it even further.

Interesting news. But does it mean:
    - that the GT3 and GT2 are getting PSM after the facelift?
    - that the US market won't be getting the GT3 and GT2 any more?
    - that the US market is getting gimmick versions of the GT3 and GT2, à la 964 RS America?
    - or that they consider the simpler TC to be an electronic stability control system as well?

Who claims that the GT2 will have PSM? My sources tell a different story, unfortunately

If the GT2 had PSM I would still be interested...

My apologies. I was getting my acronyms mixed up! TC is what I should have referred to.

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

sure liked the way the r8 sounded....why cant pcar do better than hoover even with the top of the food chain gt2

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

RC, do you have an ETA on when this will be available for orders to the general public?

PS. Am I dreaming, RC is normally first with this info

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

    Nice find Mike .

    Re: Porsche 997 GT2 spotted @ Nurburgring

I believe that Porsche has to seriously invest in the sound of it's turbo engines...it's disappointing...if you listen a turbo right after a GT3 you'll think you've gone deaf or something...no offense guys I LOVE the turbo and the GT2 even more but when I'll buy one, the first thing I'll do will be to change the exhaust to a louder one...
