    why is there no oil Temperature gauge in the 996 turbo?

    How are we suppose to know when the oil reaches the normal lubricational/operational level?

    You don't know - that's why they put it back on the 997 (and obviously always had it on the 993 and older models)

    strange how porsche missed it out in this model (996 turbo) knowing how crucial it is to know the oil temperature on these cars before starting to push the engine hard.

    This missed it not only on the Turbo but also on all other 996 variants ... which is a shame for a sport car !!!

    I have it on my Cayenne S which is not a sport car !!!!

    The 996 range was Porsche's first water-cooled 911, so they thought it didn't matter, I guess.

    Their other earlier water-cooled cars never had oil temp gauges either, afaik (924, 944, 928)...

    the 997 models got the oil temp. gauge in place of the battery gauge in the 996 models.

    Can't win without losing, I guess . . . would be nice to have the battery gauge as well.

    There is definitely a computer oil gauge on the 996 turbo, I remember my Dad checking it before some spirited driving.

    that computer oil gauge you.re talking about is for checking the oil level NOT the oil temperature.

    The computerized oil level gauge will not operate if the oil is not warmed up. After driving for a few minutes, check the oil level when stopped at idle and if the gauge is working the oil is up to operating temperature. To be safe you can wait a few additional minutes before driving hard.
