    996 PCM II questions

    Hi All,

    I picked up a used (Jan 03) C4S recently (and love it!! ) with PCM II but single CD and have a couple of questions:

    1. Is there any way to connect a portable MP3 (e.g. iPOD) to the PCM system for playback in the car?

    2. Is the telephone module for the PCM available as an aftermarket ugrade?

    Any suggestions greatly apreciated!

    I wish you guys would add the country where you're living to your profile.

    From your eMail address (not visible to others, don't worry) I can tell that you're from the UK. It this is true, the phone is retrofittable, no problem. Not cheap though.
    Ask your dealer, he should be able to get the PCM 2 phone kit through Tequipment.

    The MP3 thing is a different story. The MOST bus creates a lot of problems for aftermarket installs.
    If you want to add a MP3 player to your car, I think a wireless FM Modulator is the only possibility to do that.
    I'm not sure if a wireless FM Modulator is legal in the UK, over here in Germany it is illegal. The sound from wireless FM Modulators isn't perfect but acceptable.
    As far as I heard, a simple FM Modulator between the antenna connector and the antenna cable is another possibility and might provide a better sound with less distortion but I didn't see such a solution yet (though I heard from other people that they did it).
    There might be other solutions too but I didn't see any yet.

    Juz,

    in regard to the Ipod

    get the iTrip from griffin technologies. works wonderfully, especially on 87.9 frequency.

    strangely, if you add a car charger, it sounds better if it is running only on the ipod battery.

    oh and if RC is right about you being in the UK, it is technically illegal in the UK, but plenty of ipod people have them, and besides, how are they going to know? - victimless crime.
