Shifts quicker. No major improvement though. I read a comparison between 997s and 997s Tip recently. The Tip version is so slow (3s difference 0-200) that I really ask myself who would buy such a car

    well.. i bought one..

Well, at least now we know who was the one.

    Any others?

Talked to my dealer (again ).

    Some news update:
PDK will be shown in Frankfurt 2007 and find its way into production shortly after the presentation. Available for all standard Carrera and obviously for the turbo as well. No info about the GT3. PDK will replace Tiptronic.

Facelift of the 997 is due in summer 2007, what makes it a MY08 model (so don't ask me why they test it totally uncamouflaged already now). Along with the facelift comes a slight power upgrade as well as the introduction of the direct injection engines (as read in one of the last auto motor und sport magazines). Current AWD in the Carrera 4/targa 4 should be replaced by the more advanced AWD of the turbo as well.

Any word on the development of an e-diff to complement the PDK? Perhaps this is why there is no word of the GT series...

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

Just wanted to summarize what RC and others have kindly given us recently as things heard on the grape-vine...

    Latest facelift rumours:
  • Due out summer 2008 (MY2009)
  • Will include dynamic bend lighting
  • May include head-up display
  • May include nightvision (will be available with distance control radar on Panamera)
  • May include PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control), not 100% for 997 facelift but this will be available in the Panamera.
  • May get direct fuel injection for engines
  • Power 350 HP for the base 997 model, 380 HP for the "S" models, powerkit with possible 405 HP.
  • Power figure on the 997 Turbo and GT3 stays the same but the powerkit should deliver aprox. 510 HP, the upcoming GT2 aprox. 520-530 HP.

    Before the facelift introduction:
  • PDK is rumoured to be shown in Frankfurt 2007 and then be in production shortly after.
  • The electronically controlled AWD from the 997 Turbo could be available starting with MY2008 (summer 2007)
  • The "new" improved Tiptronic from the 997 Turbo already made it to the 997 starting with MY2007

    Anyone guess whether:

    1) The cooling vents in the front bonnet of the new GT3/GT2 will make it into the facelift Turbo? I know some tuners are adding this to their Turbo bodykits so this may be an alternative.
    2) The Turbo powerkit will include a PSE and when that may be out?

  • Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

    Tks for the recap.

You forgot the retractable front lip.

I thought that only came on Supermodels...

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

    great recap!

    What does PDCC do?

PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control) sounds great but I have no idea of what it does exactly, nor how it works, nor why I might want it. Anyone help?

To add another feature: Autobild claims that the 997 "top models" (TT, GT3 ?) will be equipped with PCCB as standard (though not saying that the PCCB will come "for free" )

It might be something like the ABC system of the Benz CL 55 : active body control, the car stays always straight on the wheels, but you do not feel it anymore

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

whatever it is, it seems that the new Cayenne has a similar feature.

That would be awsome. They should charge $5k more and have all TT with PCCB. Porsche has to lower wieght of the TT. That's one way to do it, but hopefully only the beginnig. Bring on the carbon panels and carbon/alu chassis.

Now anybody knows what's that thing at the new Cayenne?

The facelifted Cayenne features active anti-roll bars which counteract bodyroll, a feature that has been tested on other SUVs and Offroad vehicles before. Apart from the handling-orientated setup they feature an offroad mode as well.

Judging from your experiences with your new Targa, I have no doubts that Porsche put more emphasis on the dynamics of their models.

    Hi Ferdie,
I assume that anti-roll bars have nothing to do with an active body control system. The word "PDCC" (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control) scares me, because it sounds like the Benz "active body control" system. The last one is at the low end of the "driving fun" scale.

    Re: What does PDCC do?

We need more pics of facelift!!

    Thanks!

    Re: What does PDCC do?

I don't have any details reg. that issue but from my point of view they will utilize a - probably hydraulic - device to alter the force of tension and therefore characteristic of the anti-roll bar (call it "Stabilisator" in German or "antiroulis" in French).

As on other offorad vehicles, you want a rather high amount of twist on one axle to provide contact to the ground even in severe offroad circumstances. On the other hand, this would provide not enough stability on the road, where the chassis would lean to the outer side of the corner. To counteract this movement, the anti-roll bars have to be much stiffer. Generally speaking, the stiffer the bars, the less you will experience body roll.

Another way to look at this subject is the fact, that you can manually adjust this device on racecars to change the handling characteristics. In this case, it affects longitudinal chassis movement and response on steering inputs. By altering the anti-roll bars you can adjust turn-in and provide a notion of under- or oversteer.

    Re: What does PDCC do?

    So.. What that is???
    Maybe a night view?

    Re: What does PDCC do?

As I have said earlier - where would the 'viewer display' for night-vision actually go?!

Mercs have it as part of a digital dashboard. No way would a facelift 997 have a digital dashboard, that's way too extereme a change for a facelift. Perhaps the 998!

Any integration with the PCM would be crazy as it's so far away from your field of vision that it would be more danagerous to look at and not a safety feature as intended!

That leaves a heads up display, but again, too extereme an introduction for a facelift.

So I reckon it got to be 'dynamic bend lighting'.

Not sure I "get" the new shape of the tail lights -- but I'll probably be in line for the LED conversion when/if available.

    Thanks for posting Steve987!

Ferdie - I think you are correct and I believe BMW does something like this now, no?

    Re: What does PDCC do?

I think they could put it in the PCM display even if it isn't so safe..or maybe it's a sort of Distronic Control. . .

    Hi Grant,

I haven't checked on the X5's new features yet. SUVs are not the right cars for me anyways.

Anyways, the X5 features a new electronic system called Flexray. Instead of using one computer for all handling issues they installed a single unit at each wheel which controls the electronic damping systems etc. Might look it up shortly.

997 Cab Facelift - top down

    From autobild.de, hope it's not a repost: http://www.autobild.de/projektor/galerie.php?pos=28&artikel_id=12891

Re: 997 Cab Facelift - top down

The better part of your link is not the picture, but rather that AutoBild claims the Turbo and GT3 get PCCB for free.
