997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

After a year and half without a Porsche, the time is nigh to take the plunge again.

While I had to keep the option list on my 996 Targa to the bare minimum at the time, I'd like to make this Targa something truly special.

I love Carlos F's car. It was the basis for my spec.

    Porsche 911 Targa 4S
    E9 Midnight Blue Metallic
BM Black / Sand Beige Interior
CFX Black Floor Mats with Sand Beige Piping
    P15 Power Seats
    342 Heated Seats
    640 Sport Chrono Package Plus
    666 Module for Telephone PCM
    672 Extended Navigation Module
680 Bose High End Sound Package
    267 Self-Dimming Mirrors
    XLF Sport Exhaust
    405 19" Carrera Classic Wheel
446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
    XXZ Foot Rest Aluminum
    431 3-Spoke Multifunction Steering Wheel
CPA Thicker 3-Spoke Multifunction Steering Wheel
CDD Y-Trim Steering Wheel Aluminum Look
    XMP Leather Sun Visors
XMZ Rear Center Console in Leather
    XNS Steering Column in Leather
    XTV Door Finishers in Leather
    CDZ Gear Lever Trim Leather
DAD Gear Lever & Handbrake Aluminum / Leather
CUV Storage Compartment with Targa 4S Logo
CCW Belt Outlet B-Pillar Aluminum Look
CXB Door Entry Guards: Steel, Illuminated
    498 Delete Model Designation
    900 Factory Delivery

The jury is still out on the following:
    P01L Adaptative Sport Seats
XSB Sports Seat Backs in Leather
    XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest
    (instead of Power seats)

While I love Carlos F's spec, the Vulcan Grey PCM bothers me. Together with Carlos F, we have considered a variety of options. Which of the following do you prefer?

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

The first idea was to add the leather PCM option. A quick glance at the inventory of a few German dealers showed this was a popular choice with the Black/Tan interior.

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Unfortunately, I'm afraid the tan face plate would get dirty very quickly, and would be hard to cleanse properly.
So how about a black leather PCM (I hope the Exclusive department would accept this option)?

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

I also considered going a bit farther into customized interiors (yes, they love guys like me ).

The idea here is to take a black interior, add tan seat inlays (option code 25491), black floor mats with tan piping, and complete tan deviated stitching.
Thanks to Over the Hill and patrickthoren for information on deviated stitching.

(Unfortunately, I have not found a way to do deviated stitching on Photoshop in any convincing manner).

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Or why not go all the way?

First option was to do a bicolor interior with black deviated carpets, black middle console, and tan deviated stitching.

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Second option would be to go for tan inlays instead of tan seats. The thin leather stripe on the door would go black, as well as door handles.
In addition, the rear side panel would be black.

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

For what it's worth, a rear view of a black interior with tan seat inlays:

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Rear view of the first bicolor custom interior:

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

And a rear view of the inlay version:

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

With midnight blue I would not get two tone, just sand...

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Thanks for your input. Problem is, I can't help but notice the reflections... which is why I want a bicolor interior.

Besides, with the targa roof, I want light-colored seats (or at least inlays). It's a car, not an oven! I went for tan over grey because it looks more lively.

By the way, if anyone has better ideas, feel free to play with my own Photoshop "Car Configurator" (now updated with more choices).

(unfortunately, it doesn't do the rear view yet, but it might happen when I have more time! )

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

    How about natural brown?

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

It'd be fine with me (not to mention it smells and feels great), but I fear it'd be almost as bad in the reflection department. Maybe Dan L can comment.
You're about to make me go for a natural grey/brown combo, but I have to draw the line somewhere...

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

I would go for the third solution (black floor mats and black leather PCM).
In the first solution (the specs of my car), I don't like the grey plastic PCM.
In the second solution (PCM in tan leather), the buttons on the tan PCM are too agressive.
In the other solutions, there is too much black for a midnight blue car and I don't like too complicated interiors.

    Carlos

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Same as 2), plus black leather PCM

would be my choice for your original question.

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Thank you for your input. I admit I like this solution. It's also still in a reasonable price range.

(come to think of it, it should read "Same as 1)"! )

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

I have to say that the natural brown is a highly overlooked leather. But when you see one in real life you quickly become a believer. The sand, I think, will take a lot more maintenance,--keeping it clean. The natural brown is more forgiving. With that blue that you have in mind,--would be outstanding. The price delta between regular treated leathers, and the natural leathers is a bargain these days. The seat backs in leather are a must for anything that shows the backs easily from the outside, e.g., a cabrio or maybe a Targa. I hate the ABS plastic that they put in there on the Adaptives. If you go for them it forces you, IMO, to upgrade that as well.

I personaly prefer that one. tan with black middle console, dash and carpets. No tan stitching.

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Thanks for your input. Indeed, natural leather is more than worth the minute price difference. However, reflections on the windshield are a deal killer to me. And I must confess the picture you posted scare me in that regard.
Do they in your personal experience bother you? Or should I really have a look at that natural grey/brown combo that another member is considering?

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Can you get PSE for this?

Re: 997 Targa 4S - Your advice on my spec

Yes, PSE is included (option code: XLF). A MUST option by the way. If you don't order it at the beginning, it'll cost more to retrofit. And I can assure you that you're going to want it as soon as you hear it.

On a side note, the PSE is included in the X51 Powerkit. Which is nice, but too expensive for my taste.
