    Oil frothy!

    I've been looking at used 996 C4's and C2's this week to trade up from my 987 Box.

    Went to see the first car and it had a very oily sump.

    Had a look at a car today - white froth in the oil cap, very low coolant level and discoloured coolant! Has this engine got serious problems and am I right in saying a cylinder head problem?

    white in oil and low coolant level high probability of headgasket or cracked head?

    obviously not a cheap job to repair.

    That's what I thought! Passed on that car and found myself a mint one from an OPC!

    It's also a sign that the car never got up to operating temperatures time and time again. Short drives will do that.

    True but when, your buying a car and there are other things which dont look right like low coolent level asell as it being discoloured is a sure sign of something costly!

    obviosuly if the coolant and oil are normal and you have white on the cap then thats just condense which will get washed off by the oil when you bring it up to operating temp and give it a good rev...
