How do u set door locks to automatically lock when driving ?

I remember seeing on one of the discussion threads that the sport chrono package allows you to set the door locks to automatically lock when driving. When I had my car serviced I asked the dealer to do it but when I was driving home I realized the door locks still do not lock by themself. Can someone either tell me how to do this or confirm that it can not be done ?

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when driving ?

    Hmm if I remember correctly,

    key in ignition.
individual settings menu (it appears only in this state)
you check or uncheck the option.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

From the "main" PCM screen, hit the "set" button, this brings up choices including "indiv memory" - hit this and then choose the locks options. This is from memory but I think it's close! The same screen is also where you can set the duration of convenience lights, daytime running lights on/off, and auto on/off rain sensor wipers.
Also note that these settings will change if you use Key1 vs Key2.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

Just had my dealer program this function. After 4 hours of battling rush hour traffic (round-trip), I found out that the stupid thing de-programmed itself (according to the service department) after I left the dealership. Now, I have to go back to have it reset. They said it would take about 10 minutes. They also confirmed that there is no fix for the 997 Coupe passenger window auto-up (dys)function. I'm not paying $300 for some aftermarket software redux. Why can't Porsche just come up with a patch? The Cayman and 997 Cab don't have this problem.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

You can only program the auto-lock if you have the PCM option otherwise the dealership has to do it for you.

The key not only has to be in the ignition but the key has to be on for the individual settings menu to appear on the screen. It allows you to have it lock when you put the key in the ignition or when you start the car. I wish it would allow you to have it lock after you start driving.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when driving ?

Coochas -- By the way, thank you for the instructions on how to set the locks myself. It was easy, and I did it in about 75 seconds - compare that to the 10 minutes quoted by my dealer. In fact, the dealer told me it could not be done by the consumer at all. Nice.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

    IM H O:

I would not initiate ANY settings which "automatically" lock the doors. I would retain as much control as possible of the door locking function.

Reason: because you might suffer a huge PITA malfunction which may result in your being locked out of the car when you can least afford to be so.

This has happened to a guest's car in our driveway; it was a GM POS, but they were locked out nevertheless. Keep in mind, our P-cars have not been without software or electronic glitches.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

What do you mean by pcm screen ? I tried using the control on the left side of the steering wheel which controls the sport chrono clock. When I go to settings I do not see a choice for indiv settings. What am I doing wrong ?javascript:void(0)

Do you have the navigation system? If you do then you have the PCM which in turn gives you the LCD monitor. You'd be able to turn on/off the auto lock through there. If you don't have the PCM system then you'd have to have service do it for you. I hope that makes sense.

I apologise it if seems I'm nitpicking but PCM (Porsche Comunication Managememt) is in every 997/S; it's the ugly center console screen and buttonage. Nav is an option which shows up on the PCM screen but is located in a CD disk drive in the trunk. Just trying to clarify... .

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

I have a 2006 C4S with PCM and nav, and I have not been able to get the "individual settings" option to come up on the PCM screen. As far as I can tell, I have done everything I'm supposed to- key in ignition (turned to final position before cranking, so that the oil level monitor comes up), turned on PCM, gone to main screen and then set. I still don't see indiv. settings as an option. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this some kind of little option that I don't have on my coupe?

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

I forgot that the PCM comes standard in every 997 except for the GT3/RS.

Could be that you don't have Sport Chrono and the guys who are saying changes are possible do have SC. SC has more flexibility built into is so many odds-and-ends settings can be changed by owner of car. I could kick myself for not getting it. All that it does (other than throttle map change) was never described to me in detail by Porsche sales guy.

I do have Sport Chrono- sorry for not mentioning that in my previous post.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

I'm afraid you do need to have SC to do this.

No problem for those without SC. Just go to your local Porsche dealer who will program it for you using the PIWIS terminal.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

Anyone else who HAS Sport Chrono/ PCM/ NAV not see the individual settings option after following the instructions correctly?

    Bummer! Still no luck?

Okay, if you don't get any help here (Rennteam or elsewhere) maybe start thinking differently. I got this DVD recorder which is much to complicated to operate (IMHO). In one section, after following the instructions to-the-letter without getting any results I finally acted "forensically" (if you will) and found that the instructions were incorrect.

If I remember correctly I did find a glitch or two in Porsche operating manual for the NAV and had to work around it. I probably had to do something differently that was not in manual.

IOW, when they translate the manuals nobody seems to actually review and "test" them to see if they are correct of it they have omissions.

    Good luck!

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

This works on my '06 C4S. Try this: W/ foot off brake, turn key all the way on. Turn radio on. Push the set button, which is below the map button on the right side of the screen. System should then recognise which key you are using. You should the have 3 choices - PCM, Main Dsiplay and Individual Memory. Select Individual Memory. Then select lock option. Here you will see the setting to select to change "both doors" or "after start". You want after start. The doors will now lock automatically after start when exceeding 4 MPH. Warning - be careful if you take your car to a car wash - doors will lock if transmition is in neutral and car exceeds 4 MPH.

    Good luck....

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

When I took delivery of my 07 C4S, the menu "Individual Memory" was greyed out (not selectable). I took the car to the dealer and they enabled this menu so that I can access all the setting, including the door lock option.

Does your C4S have the sport chrono option?

It would be great if the dealer could activate the customization that is possible when you have the sports chrono package for cars without it. Thus keeping me from requesting these types of settings when I take my P-car in to them for "other" reasons.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

    Hi Puffy,
Yes, My car has SC. I think you have to have SC in order to have this menu in PCM. It just that in my case, it was not enabled (greyed out).

    LOL.

I love the part when the kid at the entrance goes over and scrubs the tough spots on the car with a broom and a bucket. That bucket might as well contain emery and garnet abrasive granules.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

I went down to my car especially just now. IF you have sport chrono only:

All you do is switch the ignition on, make sure PCM is on, press the SET button and select Indiv Settings.

For door locking, you can choose whether to (1) have no auto door locking at all (2) auto door locking as soon as the ignition is on (3) auto door locking when the speed exceeds 3mph.

You can adjust the time that the interior lights stay on. I think the delay is at 30 seconds by default. You can set the intensity of the lighting too. It is set at 50% by default.

You can adjust the rear wiper but I don't have a rear wiper so I couldn't tell you what you can do with this. (Quite why anyone would want a rear wiper on a sports car is beyond me! ... especially considering that it's just an aero blade with no water jet...)

You can set the rain sensor to switch on automatically as soon as the ignition is on. It saves you having to switch it on every single time the car is turned on. Useful if you still stall the car from time to time! (he says very embarrassed!)

Oh well, for those without SC, it's a trip to the dealer...

Have a great weekend. It's 11.23pm here in London on a Friday night. I'm going out for a drive....

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

Actually I was at the wash when a 911 pulled in and the checker told me what had happened when one went through and the door locked. Don't know if its true or not. All I know is that I jumped in mine when I got home and went for a ride. I stopped the car, unlocked the doors, put it in neutral and let it roll. Between 3-4 MPH the doors locked...

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

    Hello all-

As I stated in a previous post, I have a 2006 C4S with sport chrono and am still having trouble getting the individual settings option to even appear on my PCM screen. I double checked my PCM manual (pp 28-29), and it does look like I'm doing everything right (there isn't much you have to do). When I am in MAIN after switching on PCM with a key in the ignition, I still only see 'PCM system' and 'Main display' as options. No 'Individ. Memory' whatsoever- it's not even grayed out. Do any of you happen to know if the individual memory functionality was a separate little option? The PCM manual does say something about it being optional equipment. As of now I'm perplexed/ frustrated- this shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Any insight would be appreciated greatly.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

Gullwing - It is definitely NOT a separate option. If you have SC Plus option, you should be able to control these features. I think your PCM software must have a bug. Bring it to the dealer and let them know.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

Big thanks to Dave and everyone else who chimed in about the issue I'm having. I am scheduled to take the C4S in next week for an interim oil/ filter, so I will try and get this addressed also.

Re: How do u set door locks to automatically lock when drivi

My 05 997S with Sport Chrono does not show individual settings either. All I see is 'PCM System' and 'Main Menu'. Guess I need to visit dealer as well.
