    Victory!

    Well the videos in japanese, but you get the picture. I realize this does not mean the Z06 is slower, however it is the only video I have seen of a race between the two and the results speak for themselves. Notice that the Z06 got a better launch than the turbo yet the turbo pulled away as speeds increased. Very impressive.

    Re: Victory!

    the turbo was a tiptronic one, right???

    Re: Victory!

    Yes it was, no doubt this wasnt the fastest run a Z06 has ever made (someone ran a 10.8 1/4 mile with drag radials and stock engine) I'd say this was a good representation of a real world race where the tricky to launch Z06 will require an experienced hand to get the best from and a tip turbo is as easy to drive as a civic.

    Re: Victory!

    Nice find. 12.1 for the Z06 is nothing to be ashamed of, there maybe only a handful of cars that can top that in stock form.

    The conclusion I came up with is that Porsche really did hit it's mark on the 997TT in tip: [beep]-proof fast, mashed the pedal and say bye bye. No need to 'get ready', no buttons to press, and no worry about losing a race because of missed shifts or botched clutch launch. Basically it's always ready, wet or dry, rain or shine.

    Re: Victory!

    the turbo's time is unbelievable for a stock car ...I've read the Z06 can do a better time than that but I agree it all comes down to the driver and the condition of the road at the moment...anyways...the manual tt can do a time of 12.1..and since I've always been a big fun of the manual one, here's the video for ya it's stock alright...

    Re: Victory!

    That is a fantastic time for 95 degrees and 45% humidity! I have no doubt that stock 6 speed turbos can and will run high elevens!

    German POWERCAR tested a Corvette Z06 and clocked it at 13.1 or 13.3 seconds from 0-200 kph. They didn't get a car from the german distributor, so they got a swiss car.
    The 997 Turbo did 12.6 seconds in POWERCAR. Interesting.

    Another curiousity: SPORT AUTO magazine requested a Z06 from GM Germany for a Supertest on the track (Nordschleife, Hockenheim). GM Germany apparently wasn't "able" to "find" a car for them. Funny. SPORT AUTO hopes to be able to do the Supertest next spring, if they don't get a car from GM, they will do it with a customer car.

    Don't get me wrong: the Z06 is damned fast and really a very good deal. Still...if Z06 owners think they can outrun the 997 Turbo very easily, they're definetely wrong.

    From my own experience, the video is telling THE fact.
    Btw: the tested 997 Turbo had Tiptronic.

    Re: Victory!

    That first video shows the closest launch I have seen in some time.
    Cheers.

    Re: Victory!

    so.. run something < 12 sec in 400 m with 6 speed TT its almost imposible?

    Re: Victory!

    I wouldn't say that, look at the drag strip video of the 997tt running a 12.1 when the outside temp was 95 degrees and humidity was 45%, imagine what kind of times it could have run in better conditions.

    Re: Victory!

    No chances for CORVETTO(in japonese)!!!
    997tt THE RULER OF THE LINES!!!

    Re: Victory!

    Just as a reminder the TT is heavier with less horsepower but still managed to beat the corvette that has more HP and less weight and more plastic. Nice find trip. Porsche did a very good all around job with the 997 TT.

    Re: Victory!

    Not sure anyone else can speak Japanese and can be bothered to translate, but the driver of the 997 was boasting that he didn't need to do anything, just point and shoot. The driver of the american car was saying that the shifting really slows down the car.

    I have seen with my eyes 11.8 from a manual 997TT at every run without any problems... At the same track tip version was constantly at 11.5-11.6..

    The shifting in the Z06 is pretty "sloppy" according to the Powercar review. This may slow down a driver a little bit. Yes, the 997 TT driver didn't have to do anything, just press the throttle. This is why I like my Tip 997 TT.
    If I want more involvement, I can have it any time by messing around with the Sport Chrono package and PSM and/or changing the Tip to manual mode.

    Re: Victory!

    RC, do you miss the sixspeed?

    Re: Victory!

    To quote myself on another forum:

    Think all the Z06 needs to beat the Turbo is AWD to effectively put the power down;

    give it a good automatic transmission so there won't be anymore excuses for missed shifts/botched clutch launch;

    while we are at it, might as well put the engine over the rear axle to inprove traction at rear;

    Funny thing is that now it smells just like a tip-ed 997 Turbo!?!?!?!

    Quite funny...

    Re: Victory!

    What type of evo is that.

    FQ 400 ???

    Re: Victory!

    I think it is the FQ 400...that would explain it's very agressive launch. Fast little car...but not as fast as the corvetto.

    Sometimes but most of the time I'm happy with Tip.
    Why I miss manual sometimes?
    Well: since I'm using the Tip in auto mode only (manual mode sucks, believe it or not, the Tip does it's job best in auto mode), there are sometimes some driving situations where manual would be more of an advantage, speaking of driving dynamics.
    The Tip is great when you're on a track driving in a certain "flow" without major speed decreases. Whenever I have to slow down substantially and use the kickdown to gain speed, I wish I had manual. This doesn't happen often and it happens mainly on public streets. Still, for ME, the advantages of Tip are huge since I can keep both hands on the steering wheel. Driving through very fast changing curves, this is a huge advantage. Also the Tip shifts very aggressive when you get into the driving "flow", it is a lot of fun. Unfortunately sometimes it is very annoying, on public streets, that the Tip keeps the low gear for too long (mainly when Sport Chrono is turned on). People start to look at me like they'd ask themselves: "doesn't this guy know that he can upshift"?!

    Overall I'm happy with my Tip decision but I wished Porsche would have had PDK ready for the 997 Turbo launch.

    The one VGA is talking about is the 400 bhp version. Available in the US and the UK. It's fast but the lag is monstrous.

    Re: Victory!

    Thanks RC, your response is greatly appreciated
