Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

Not sure if they are asymetrical or not: hard to see if there are two per headlight or only one per headlight. Could they be lights connected to the steering?

Or could it be sensors for active cruise control?

No ACC... a radar woudnt fit in. I think your first guess - steering aligned lights would make more sence

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

i booked a targa in sept 2006 before official launch at uk dealer and initially dealer said delivery jan-feb 2007 but they now say that their allocation of targa is so small will be june 2007. i am a little worried by these new pics of the updated model and reading will be out on show august 2007 and first deliveries jan 2008. seams i buy a new model and then wait 8 months for delivery and then few months after i get new model will be released. not happy about this but want to get the car. does anyone have any thoughts on this? release new model, small allocations, long waiting list and then new and updated model round the corner and timming all colliding?

As a fellow 997-Targa wannabe, all I can say is that I sympathize with you, brother. I've got a Feb 07 allocation reserved and I'm agonizing over the same decision. It'd sure make it easier if we knew when the facelift was really coming . . .

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

Guys, my guess - we will see the Facelift on the IAA in Frankfurt Sept 07. After that the MY2008 is going to be delivered, means any cars after August07 will have the facelift!

For me there are already to many faclift cars on the road. Around Stuttgart Zuffenhausen you can see daily this cars. So I dont believe that Porsche will wait 2 years before they start with the new ones.

I heared from reliable source, that the 997 will be produced till Autumn 2010. First it was foreseen to stop production in 2009. My source is a part-supplier and the extended the contracts with him. So a Facelift for 2008 would be to late if a complete car comes 2 years later. So - my guess, FL next September for another 3 years!

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

what does MY2008 mean? Not sure what MY stands for? If they did the face lift in August does that mean August production onwards will have the new facelift? I may well move my order from a confirmed June to a August on that basis to catch the new facelift? I just cant standthe idea of having ordered and waited 9 months that it would have a facelift 2 months later. i can wait the extra 2 months! any thoughts anyone? (what is MY 2008 mean again?)

    MY = Model Year.

A Model Year can only be produced on 1 January 1st. So, you can theoretically start producing a MY 2009 car on January 2, 2008, and keep producing it until December 31, 2009.

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

Lars - thanks for the feedback. Your time lines make sense. I am going back to Porsche to ask them to push for an earlier delivery. I ordered in Sept before the car was even launched and June just seams so far away especially with the face lift around the corner (8 weeks after proposed delivery!) I want this car so much but for the first time I have to say I have some doubts as to the buying/selling process is reasonable when I am faced with this situation. Comments welcome as always.

At Porsche, MY 2008 begins on September 1, 2007 and ends on July 31, 2008.
There is no production in August as the German plants are closed for holidays.

If I were you, I'd ask for a September build. If I cannot get a Targa by May, I'm probably going to do so as well.

Not so true these days. There were MY07 cars at port at fiscal year end (July 31). Also, MY04 Cayenne was being sold in May 2003. September 1 is the generally accepted launch of the Model Year, but it is more the norm for early launches now.

Those were the first cars of the type, that's why they came so early, that's all.

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

The model year issue has been beaten to death on some of the other car boards. The real answer is that it's different from country to country.

As has been stated, in the US, you can introduce a model year at any time within the prior year (MY08s can be sold from Jan 1 07). In some places in Europe, they can be sold from the prior September (MY08s can be sold only from Sep 1 07). And in some countries, they can only be sold in the actual calendar year (MY08s can be sold only from Jan 1 08).

All of this can and has resulted in the same car being marketed as different model years in different countries. For example, the BMW 5-series has been marketed in the US as a MY07 since April, while in Europe, the exact same car was marketed (until September) as a MY06.

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

Talked to my dealer (again ).

    Some news update:
PDK will be shown in Frankfurt 2007 and find its way into production shortly after the presentation. Available for all standard Carrera and obviously for the turbo as well. No info about the GT3. PDK will replace Tiptronic.

Facelift of the 997 is due in summer 2007, what makes it a MY08 model (so don't ask me why they test it totally uncamouflaged already now). Along with the facelift comes a slight power upgrade as well as the introduction of the direct injection engines (as read in one of the last auto motor und sport magazines). Current AWD in the Carrera 4/targa 4 should be replaced by the more advanced AWD of the turbo as well.

Make sense to me Lars. I had a feeling they would bring it out sooner than later.

What I don't understand is 997 MK-I didn't come with Direct Injection (DI) due to gasoline sulfure content and now rumor has it that 997 MK-II will offer DI whatever happened to Sulfore in gasoline?

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

The rear of the 997 facelift is awesome!!

Could someone post other pics please?

Summer 2007 isn't that far away!

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

One year delay for the changes to appear on the turbo and targa maybe?

That would explain some of the confusion.

Aaaahhhh, sorry, sorry, sorry guys for the confusion. I meant summer 2008 of course. So my other comment why they test it now makes sense.

Sorry again, seems that I get a little bit confused with that Porsche model policy.

So again: PDK next summer (2007), facelift the summer after next (2008).

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

    Hi Rossi,

thats what all Porsche Dealers are telling. Dont know how much I shoud trust it!? Dont think they bring innovations like PDK or AWD as well as DI without Facelift. To many big things which are worth to talk about.

Anyway - my next Porsche will be a FL, either next year or one after!

So I guess the facelift is MY09 then...
Will the new 4wd system come next summer as MY08 or summer 2008 as MY09

Exactly. Facelift is MY09, production from summer 2008 ( ) onwards.

Only PDK should be introduced earlier, all other changes (AWD, DI-engine) with the facelift. (hope I got it right this time )

The electronically controlled AWD from the 997 Turbo could be available starting with MY 2008 (summer 2007) BEFORE the facelift. The "new" improved Tiptronic from the 997 Turbo already made it to the 997 starting with MY 2007 (just in case some people didn't know).

Interesting that they make all that fuss with their "improved" tiptronic, if it will replaced by PDK in less than one year anyway.

whats the difference between the new "improved" tripronic and the old one??

Shifts quicker. No major improvement though. I read a comparison between 997s and 997s Tip recently. The Tip version is so slow (3s difference 0-200) that I really ask myself who would buy such a car
