I placed a deposit with my local (UK) dealer in December, have been shown a production barchart showing 996 production ending in Aug 04, 997 production starting in Sept 04, 986 Boxster production ending Sept 04 and 987 Boxster production starting Oct 04. Delivery of "my" car should be by Mar 05. Hopefully, with new car a better choice of colours will be available. Don't like the idea of spending GBP 1,500 on special colours!

Which delaer have you ordered it at? Mines at park lane where I'm the third person on the list.
As for colours, anything but silver or seal grey as I'd never locate my car in a central london car park as they are so common. I quite like the carmon red mettalic.......special colour!

I transfered my deposit from a 986 on order to the 987 last December. Strangely, My dealer still kept my original spec'd 986 on order, even with the odd option combination I specified, and it is now sitting on his lot for sale. Kind of an odd feeling seeing it!
If anyone wants an AS 986 w/ m030, Boxster red interior w/ sport seats, contrasting black carpet, cruise control, and trip computer, there is one already built.

If it weren't a Porsche, I might be inclined to agree with you. Since it is a Porsche, and they love to test the hell out of their products before we even see them, I don't think a few minor hiccups are worth waiting a year to avoid. You could be hit by a bus in June, and you only get one go around.

The black carpet turns out to be a good looking choice as well, as it ties in to the black trim on the door panel in the speaker areas and such. I did spec the Boxster red floormats though, for a sort of layered effect. I figured if I didn't like it I could easily replace them with the black.

Hi ecentrik - someone else out there who feels everyman and his dog has silver or grey! I wanted Orient red metallic - so they stopped it! I've seen Carmon red - on dealer's forecourt -bit dark for me. Hopefully new car, new colours. Isn't Carmon red currently a "standard" metallic choice? I've thought about seal grey / blue interior / blue roof but not sure about the combination. Cobalt blue / Zenith blue nice but GBP1500! Orient red not even on special list! Hope the price for new Boxster - even with 280bhp not too much of an increase on current car. I guess with Z4 (even if it is awful) and new SLK (tart cart) they can't ramp the price too much.
