Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

    .

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

Or would it be a speed camera detector?

    Just kidding !!!!

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

    Bonnet Action Camera!?

    Looks a bit weird ...

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

Its not symetrical so i reckon its nothing.

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

It IS on both sides (i.e. two in each headlight). I bet this is more of a range-sensing device. IOW each headlight is capable of taking it's own proximity readings. Both sides of front of car are "protected." Could warn you of being too close to things in relation to your particular speed.

Sounds stupid, I know, but we're just speculating trying to solve puzzle together... .

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

Well i can't imagine it being anything else than for the lights. Whatever it could be, they'll become some uber-expesive units to replace....

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

Maybe it's Lojack to deter thieves from prying them out

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

    maybe these are see-through lenses

    Swiveling Headlights

Latest craze. Turn the steering wheel and the headlights turn in sync.

    Re: Swiveling Headlights

Think you got it. There is a discernible gap around each of the top lenses meaning they might just be steered lightes.

Not sure how those dark markings tie in. Maybe a self-check?

    You guys are amazing!

WE have several good candidates for photo recon eval.

    I marvel at your thoroughness!

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

    maybe XRAY vision!!!!

    Yeah, funny.

Then again, makes you wonder how long it is going to take Porsche to get the message and fix the ease-of-theft problem.

Apparently it's a low priority given that the same problem has existed for almost a decade with the 986 and 996.

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

Funny this evening I saw a segment on Projekt Zukunft, that showed Siemens night vision group at work testing their product.
It looks very similar to that photo.

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

We discussed this some time ago:

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=997&Number=257643&page=0&fpart=14

Up to now I think its either:

    - Night Vision
    - Radar Front-Parking Sensors á la Mercedes CL
    - Corner Lights

    I dont think its:

    - Adaptive Cruise Control

    And no NightVision IMO.

There are four of these devices, two on the side of each headlight (note the red arrows I've added to the picture). NightVision requires only one camera AFAIK, which should be placed near the middle of the vehicle.

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

    Speed camera zapper?

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

Night vision? No iPod intergration, no satellite radio, yet Porsche going to have something highly advance like night vision on a 997?

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

I know about one option which will be available: dynamic bend lighting. Also possible: head-up display (not sure), nightvision (not sure yet, will be available with distance control radar on Panamera).
Also tested in the 997 facelift: PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control), not 100% for 997 facelift but this will be available in the Panamera.

Engines MAY get direct fuel injection, rumored power right now is 350 HP for the base model, 380 HP for the "S" models, powerkit with possible 405 HP.
According to the latest rumors, the power figure on the 997 Turbo and GT3 stays the same but the powerkit should deliver aprox. 510 HP, the upcoming GT2 aprox. 520-530 HP.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

what's Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control? I thought that's another name for Porsche Active Suspension Control? Thanks RC for the potential updates too.

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

hey lets get back to basics...what about just simple auto lights on/off sensor....like pretty much every other car these days!!

    Yeah, exactly.

How about fixing some stuff that needs fixing? Like improving the software user interface with NAV. There's lots of other stuff too; like lack of a mute button for radio and pause button for CD?!

Re: Is 997 facelift getting night vision?

It's the IPOD connection port. (You'll have to run the wires to the cockpit from the lights under the hood and in through one of the doors.) Hey,--you wanted it INTEGRATED?

    Sounds real good RC .

Don't you think if they offer PDCC it'll take a way from 911 sportiness?

    What's you thoughts on PDCC?

You can mute the radio, the same button also pauses the cd. Of course you have to dig into the sound menu to find the button.

Finally, one cool feature on the multi-function steering wheel, MUTE!

    Re: Mute

"Finally"?! It's always done this, along with many other handy features!

I personally now wouldn't buy another Porsche without a MFSW unless I planned to ONLY use the car on the track.
