Don't think the 720S is comparable to the GT2RS, they are different cars IMO and for different drivers or uses. Both good but in different ways. The 720S should more daily driveable/versatile than the GT2RS, more confortable. On the other hand doubt the 720S will be as raw and extreme as the GT2RS at the wheel nor will it transmit the same sensations. IMO only drivers with good driving experience and skills should be buying the GT2RS.

i will stick with my order of the 488GTO. there i get the looks, the guarantee to have something very special for the same money and  most likely better performance - which i do not care much about for street use though. the GT2RS is not even limited, PAG will flood the market with it (some options start in 02/18 !!!!) so i cannot even resell the car easily.

Interested to know if the GTO moniker is a place holder or whether it is for sure? I would be surprised if its called GTO.

sorry, i should have made it clear that for me it is just a place holder for the (488)VS. i'd think it fits but it is far from obvious. ferrari has surprised a lot recently with their naming stategy.

mclaren is certainly worse, not only in their naming strategy but also in their model update and variant policy - at least so far. the mclaren models proliferate almost as much as 911s:::)))

Im tempted to go for the Weissach 😎 But right now, I'm on a small island in Greece with very poor internet connections, so I'm wondering if anyone knows or could find out (Whoopsy, do me a favor?) if it will be possible to have the front lift if choosing the Weissach pack?  Contradictory, I know, but the car would be undrivable on the streets were I live without the lift. Can't even imagine the pain having to listen to the scratch sound going over one of many speed bumps in my neighborhood with this car......heart

Thinking about black on black, but need to get my hands on a konfigurator first. But I do like the 911's in black. And in my opinion, a car like this must look really mean and not silver meh, as noon would have put it

    "Meh Silver" Smiley

On another model I would say black looks mean, but in the GT2RS part of its meaness comes from its unique black carbon fiber and black plastic bits all over the car in contrast with the body color (bonnet, intakes, wing, gills, hood, etc). And if you get black you will tend to hide all of it having the opposite effect. Personally I would go with white or red, and the contrast with all the black bits will be very non-meh mean Smiley Red will even match the interior red accents... just don't get the red-light district roof liner please Smiley

I agree with Carlos. Black is the WRONG color for this car. With the huge tail, whale like front air ducts and black accent pieces, you would do an injustice to the car styling ordering it in black.Smiley

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

Disagree, black looks the most sinister and coherent on this car.  The sharp contrast of light colors with the plastic and carbon everywhere looks ridiculous imho.  I think the subtle contrast of black vs. carbon is a much better look.

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

So why would you want this over a GT3 RS? I guess it's a bit faster in the straights, but you lose the NA engine, which is one of the major draws of the RS in the first place.

Right!... in black it simply looks like a GT3RS, you cant see as well black carbon hood, the black rear lower bumper, the black roof stripes, and everything that screams GT2RS.

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

I don't really care if other people think I'm driving a GT2 vs 3.  I would buy this car for the performance, not the attention.  Just my opinion, but I think they went too far with the contrasting colors on the 2RS.  Also believe they should have made a clear performance delta between it and the 720s/488GTB, but I will wait for real world comparisons before I judge.

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

The GT2RS doesn't really make sense vs a 720S. It is slower, looks ricer and will be less confortable. So it's real place is on the track, but a club sport makes way more sense for the track. So the GT2RS is a niche car or for collectors but since it seems they are going to produce a lot of them... So the main reason to buy this is because you had an allocation and you can flip the car after a year without possibly getting hammered in resale.

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

This price point of 285K€ base price in Germany without limitation is too high IMO.

McLaren strategy is the best. Design and produce the best car you can at a certain point of time, build a series of them for a couple of years, when enough advances have been made, just produce a new car and move on. If you don't want the latest greatest you can buy a 2-3 year old previous model fr a significant discount. Porsche strategy of voluntarly not releasing new cars for 3 to 4 years is just about making more money, and on top of it they are holding back on the improvements and hp just because they can. In the end, Porsche produces cars that are good just enough to sell well, not the best car they could build. Bean counters ruined the regular 911 and are also the reason why Porsche refuses to produce the cars that really excite people anymore. Look how many here have moved away from the 911...
You could justify Porsche strategy in the past when 911 were a good value, but the price increases of the last 15 years have ruined the equation. Porsche should make better cars or cheaper cars. Not sure how long their strategy will work, maybe until the next financial crisis.

Long live McLaren, they are revitalizing the sport car industry and push Porsche out of their confort zone. I would buy a McLaren just to support their spirit if I cared for ultra performance two seaters.

After these few days at Goodwood, I have canceled my 720S order.

I realized that McLaren just doesn't do anything for me, I was never excited about it, I ordered one just because I can.

Between the Exclusive Turbo S and the GT2RS, I got all bases covered. Former is a unbeatable daily and the later is a track monster.

I get really excited about the GT2RS, the 720S is just a meh moment. I was liking the new styling direction and the new interior, but those alone is not enough.

The 720S is just gonna be a headache for me to use, the unpractical doors, the 'supercar' styling means whenever i go people is just gonna gathered and ask questions to no end. And I already have the Huracan Spyder for those moments.

To the regular bozos, the GT2RS is just another 911 with a ricer wing, no one will give it a second look unless they are care guys, and I mostly can be left alone.

A GT2RS is the most powerful 911 variant yet, but the 720S is not even the most powerful 12C platform variant, that honour goes to the P1.

Have they done anything different with the GT2RS motor (from the Turbo S) to ensure it has good oiling under its very high g-forces?  It is integrated dry (wet) sump, right?
