Still the question remains, why they test a nearly undisguised mule NOW, when the release of this model will be in late 2008.

How should this car be disguised???
Too much camouflage attracts attention or do you really think ANYONE would have recognized this car to be the "facelift"?
Think logical: Porsche just introduced the 997 Turbo and the 997 Targa 4/4S, not to mention the GT3 and the GT3RS.
Do you really think Porsche would want to p.ss off customers by offering a facelift one year later? I highly doubt it.
They can't offer four different 997 model variations and then one year later, a facelift. This is why the Porsche employee was so angry because such rumours can hurt car sales a lot.
EARLIEST facelift release should be around MY2009, if the 997 sells pretty well, even MY2010 wouldn't be excluded.
Another possibility would be that the visible facelift stuff like the rear lights will be retrofittable, so owners have the choice to "upgrade" their cars. Highly unlikely though, especially since Porsche introduces a "new" design
with the Cayenne facelift, meaning that the 997 facelift rear lights will not fit older 997 models.
2007 is the year of the Cayenne facelift, the 997 GT2 and the 997 Turbo Cabriolet.

The question is not how they should disguise this car, but why they test some new parts with relatively unimportant optical changes ALREADY NOW or AT ALL.
You see, I think very logical.
So my bet is still on an early 2008 facelift.
