Latest rumor: MY 2009 (meaning early summer 2008).
There has been one source indicating a MY 2008 release but when I brought up this rumor during a discussion with a Porsche employee, he was pretty p.ss.d and told me that spreading such false rumours may hurt their sales. So I suppose MY 2009 is the real deal.

I actually expected the facelift with the release of the 997 Turbo but apparently some people weren't to happy with it's early release, so they decided to release it two years later for ALL models.
The rear lights should be LEDs but they can't be retrofitted since they'll have a slightly different shape than the "old" (current) ones. Actually it will be the Cayenne who introduces the new rear light design with some sort of "swing" in the lower part of the rear light.
When you see it, you'll understand. It looks nice and more "modern" but I'm afraid a little bit that some people will argue that Porsche moved the sunny-side-up headlight design from the 996 to the rear light design of the 997.

I believe RC is refering to the dip/curve of the light.

    Re: LED's in action

    thanks for the info RC.

so doesn't this make it a year later than the 996's refresh.
that came out stateside in MY2001 i believe after the car
    was introduced in MY1999.

I would conjecture than that the 997 will have a one year longer production
    life?

also, any other changes that you're aware of?

(i'm curious when the 9974/4s will adopt the turbo's all wheel drive system.

    thanks always for your time.

and if they will make the restyling also on the Turbo,GT2,etc..i think a lot of "other" people will be not happy..

    Porsche:think well on this decision...

    He does .

Its my opinion , but it certainly looks better and alot more modern..Makes the butt look even more full ..

Icing on the cake would be a ""generous"" hp bump , and with what happened to the 987 makes it well possible...

    throt...

Still the question remains, why they test a nearly undisguised mule NOW, when the release of this model will be in late 2008.

Another theory could be, that the Porsche official was quite pi.ssed when you confronted him with the "real" release date in 2007 and that he just threw in some smoke grenades.

That is a very interesting question I also want to know. Any answers in this case?

Thats the key question! I know that Porsche extended the contracts with their suppliers from 2009 to 2010 for the 997 parts. As Porsche will introduce the Panamerica in 2009, the dont have time to bring up a new 911 in the same time frame. But still - one more reason to expect a faclift next year instead of 2009.

Whatever, I will not buy a car before the facelift is out, for this I see to many "new" cars daily driving around Zuffenhausen. Even when this are all mules, it would make me sad investing in something "emotional" which is already old.

Regarding 2 years ahead Mules on the street? Think about the Cayenne, those Mules you could see 2 years ago on the street. Since that time a facelift was expected every spring but havent been launched yet. So you never now what they do. Its more economical political to move a introduction than something to do with end of developement.
