I don't think prices will drop, not much, because there will be so few 911R's for sale.

Update on the "touring package" version of the GT3:

    - Improved rear diffuser and aerodynamics

    - Faster top speed than "normal" GT3 with wing (due to the above)

Today I got the confirmation from a second source that the touring package is coming...so it seems a pretty sure thing.

Did you get any details about what the touring package includes other than the above and no rear wing?  Rear Seats?  Different Suspension tuning and ride height?  Manual only?

Interesting that it will have a higher top speed than regular GT3, since it loses 20hp at top speed (no ram-air intakes), but is more slippery through the air.

    I guess this is first NA 911 to break 200mph (911R was 320kph or 199mph, I think)

Will the touring package just be an option on regular Gt3 allocations or is this like an entire new model with new allocations?

Georg Kacher's article even mentioned the option code (X90, I think) which would imply it's not a separate model.

I wonder what will be the price of X90 (if any)?

Is there any solid information about transmission choices for the Touring Package? Rumors varying from PDK only, MT only, and choice of either so that covers the spectrum of variant speculation. I have a December build which presumably is a late November lock.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

    To me ,

A GT3 with no wing and potential compromise on downforce an high speed stability doesn't make sense.

The two seats behind is a plus, but now it is too late anyhow .... car will be there in 2 weeks :-(

I'm again annoyed that Porsche is not able to propose the full value proposition from day one.

This is just not fair for all early buyers. I must say nevertheless it wouldn't probably have changed my position .....

The car is not so nice without wing and replacement of standard motro cover. But this is my taste ....

Haven't heard anything about manual or PDK (I assume it will get both, like the "regular" GT3 but it could help with calming down 911 R owners if they would offer PDK only Smiley) but the last rumor I heard about the touring package interior was...rear seats. Which would be great and it would make sense!

Well, I think that those drivers who really get the GT3 for the product itself and not the brand name, can live with that. Porsche sells every single car they can make, so I think no worries here. Smiley Also, both (version with or without wing) are easily distinguishable.

In a perfect world, Porsche would have named the GT3 without rear wing and with rear seats GTS but we all know why this didn't happen. Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Just spoke to my dealer . He confirms the touring package and according to him : manual and PDK will be offered , no rear seats , suspensions like the GT3, improved diffusor .

I asked if he has many interested clients . His answer was : no , not really .

Our market is maybe a bit different then others . We do not have a '' poseur '' market . Most owners of GT3/RS do track their cars , at least once and a while and do not buy them to drive around open roads .

So, if they are interested in the GT3 they want it for the track, otherwise they buy more ' conformable ' and suitable DD cars like a TT , or GTS

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

That's precisely why I don't understand, that the tourig package got green light.

The GT3 is Porsche's Track car. It has always been advertised as such. There are far better daily drivers than it and the GTS was introduced to act as the bridge between the Carrera and the GT3.

What's next, a touring package for the GT3 RS and the GT2 RS? ...or the CUP angry

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

That said, and I fully understand your point, I would be tempted by a Touring package as I'm convinced it would be the better looking car. I don't really like the looks of the GT3 wing, whilst I think a 911R is a very sexy looking car. If suspension setup etc remains the same, I doubt you would "feel" the difference of the car lacking the wing.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I would probably be tempted by the Touring Package to make it my DD .  Would take it manual . Only down side would be road clearance .

I am giving up on the back seats, as my kids now are getting too big to fit in them .

They should have done this from the start : Sell the 911R as an unlimited edition (at GT3 price). There would have been no need for a touring package in the GT3 then.

Current 911R owners would be happier, and track-oriented GT3 customers too Smiley

It's interesting to consider.  Yes, they probably could have sold twice as many pretty easily (maybe even with a higher price).  But if they built 4,000 of these at the same price, maybe the demand would have been much less and they may have struggled to sell 2,500 without discounts Smiley

The problem with the term poseur is that it belongs in the eye of the beholder. One can easily conclude that driving on public roads in a car with a large(GT3) or enormous(RS) wing affixed to its posterior is clearly the mark of a "poseur" :)

FYI, I believe AP stated they designed the GT3 to be the most beautiful of all the 911's. Without the sculptured wing, it would be nothing more than a zillion other 911's on the road.

Regarding building more R's, Grant is correct. If they built more, the attraction for the car would significantly decrease.

Ferry Porsche's 73 RS had no ducktail.  It was a light metallic green if memory serves.  There are different approaches to similar goals.
