Aston Martin builds beautiful cars and the quality seems to have never been better than now.
BUT: performance sucks in my opinion. They're too heavy and not sporty enough.
Starting with next year, when the winter is over, we'll have the possibility to testdrive a few Aston Martin models and with some luck, we may be even testdriving a DBS as soon as it is going to be available officially.
I'm very curious to experience how these cars drive but judging by the test results in various magazines, I'm not impressed...yet.
Yeah, performance sucks so much in the AMV8 that he did in the Ring 8:03mins lap against the lap of the 997 S with ceramic brakes option: 8:05....Strange, don't you think?
Don't forget that the AM V8 had semi-slicks on it. Anyway the V8 Vantage is heavier than a 997! So the ring performance is still impressive. But i think some guys underestimate this car. A big problem was a comparison between a 997s and a early V8 Vantage in a german car mag last year. The 997 won clearly. But after my ride i can't understand that summary. Both are incredible.
The 997 S was better than the Aston V8 in this german test probably because the germans who made the test appeled(?) more to the Porsche because it is GERMAN!
Yup, just like when the British Top Gear team ran the AM against the clock and against a 997S and BMW M6 along the same same stretch of road on the Isle of Man, all driven by the Stig, their national preferences caused them to allow the 997S to win.
Um, no! That doesn't quite sound right, does it?

Definitely a wife-mobile.
Now of course if they would supercharge it or, even better, turbocharge it, wind up the suspension, with a 6-speed manual, then it could be fun.

Oh. I see you did a ride, too The 6-speed-manual is series. The clutch is much stronger than in a 911. If you're wife is not a fitness trainer, it will be a hard job to drive a AM. Please tell me you ever drove a AM...
By the way, i see a lot of women driving 911 Cabriolets.

Aston Martin says typical buyer owns 7 cars , including a Porsche or Ferrari, so I doubt this car's intended buyer suffers any loss of sleep when told " my M3 is as fast as your car "

I agree for the DB9 and Vanquish. But not for the V8. This car is sporty. And i bet that you can catch more girls with a V8 Roadster as with a 997 Convertible.
Next point is that the AM has one big advantage. Exclusivity. Not everybody drives Aston Martin and that's IMO a good thing. So if you want an eyecatcher you have to go for an AM or a Ferrari.
The 911 is just sport. Not elegance. The AM V8 is both.

What I don't understand is why Aston can't do what Ferrari did with the 599. Despite the car being heavy it's a rocket on wheels and supposedly handles like a dream. Once they give their cars a proper performance specification and fix those pesky transmission problems, they will be hotter than Ferrari.

Crash because its under Ford.
Check Ford company sportscars (except Ford GT it is different thing).
Jaguar XK and XKR --- slower than a cayman S and Carrera S
Range Rover Supercharged---> i would prefer Cayenne S for performance
Volvo S60R---> is it real 300hp???
Aston v8 Vantage- ---> it is much better looking than Carrera S but Carrera is faster.
Vanquish S---> 60sec to 300kmh????? I would drive 550 maranello
IMO all ford company engines power is %20-25 less when compared to its rivals
Ha Astons are elite and best looking and i love them thats different than performance of course

Because the AMV8 would cost more with it had 400bhp+...It is supposed to be the "baby Aston", the cheapest, available to more people. So with see the AMV8 as the cheapest Aston, you would realise the impressive job that AM did with it...and to remind you the AMV8 costs $110 000 but the 599, $255 000.
