    X50 package

    Hello,
I'm looking to buy 03-04 996 tt and was wondering if someone can tell me what exactly is included in the x50 package? I'm guessing breaks, intercoolers, software, maybe suspension, but is there anything done to the engine itself?
    Thanks

    Re: X50 package

    I believe:

    GT2 intercoolers
    K24 turbos
Steel synchros for 1st and 2nd gears (questionable)
    GT3 oil pump
    Exhaust
    ECU

    Re: X50 package

I think it includes a transmission cooler as well.

    Re: X50 package

    Thanks Statman
I currently own 06 BMW M5 and the 04 SL 55AMG .Do you think that by going to 04 996 tt I'm taking the step back as far as overall technology is concern? I had for over two years 04 Cayenne tt that I traded for M5 so I know that some convenience options from Cayenne are not possible on 03-04 996tt..I know the Porsche is fast, but does it feel like the state of the art car, just like when was relies?

Sorry, I don't understand your sentence ("just like when was relies?"). I also can not compare to the M5 or the 55AMG (both of which are fabulous). I can tell you the TT is very modable, good reliability and fast...yes very fast. I personally did not get the X50 package as I went aftermarket for suspension, hybrid turbos, et. al.

    Re: X50 package

The 911 Turbo offers an optional X50 engine enhancement performance package that increases horsepower to 444 (SAE) @ 5,700 rpm and sustains 457 lb.-ft of peak torque from 3,500 to 4,500 rpm. The new package includes modifications to the turbocharger, air intake cooler, electronic control unit, exhaust system, as well as a strengthened transmission. The X50 package is only available as an option from the Porsche factory

    Re: X50 package

if your considering a 996 tt...dont leave home without it.

    Re: X50 package

Being in the market for a 996TT as well, I've sought advice on the X50 question. Although the car is more powerful, they tend to command a premium which is questionable. I am yet to drive one, but increased lag due to the larger K24 Turbos worries me a bit.
If you want to tune your car, K24s are said to be great to get to 600 HP+, but if all you are interested is a mild power & torque increase, then a bog standard TT with K16 may be the way to go.

As far as I am concerned, I have decided to make this a non-criterion. Not paying more for it, but not running away from X50 either.

The turbo lag is not a problem if you go with a Tiptronic X50. The X50 lag is pretty noticeable in a six-speed, in fact it's no faster in a 0-60 race than the standard motor.

The big difference is after one is on the boost for a short while. The X50 six-speed is quite a bit faster in 0-124 situations or on long track straightaways.

This is true: the K16's can safely be boosted to about 1.1BAR/525HP max. and the K24's about 1.3BAR/625HP max. If one doesn't care too much about the tranny cooler upgrade, and one is shooting for low 500's HP, that's not a bad move. BUT one CAN feel the difference when boost goes to the 1.2-1.4BAR range and peak HP broaches 600 (and peak torque broaches 600lb-ft, as well).

    Re: X50 package

I have a 2004 996TT X50 Coupe Blk/Blk. I have an FVD stage 4 program and full exhaust. Before that I had a 2002 996TT Coupe with FVD program and exhaust. I would recommend getting the X50 package if you can find one you like. I think it was originally an $18k option new. I know on resale people ask for a premium for the option, but usually not too much. I do feel a little more lag from the K24's vs the K16's, but it isn't much and when the K24's do kick in you can feel the difference AND IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY.
