    PCM2 addressbook synchronisation?

Does anyone know how to snychronize the PCM2 addressbook with a PDA or mobile phone?

I have tried with several different devices over the infrared port. My device is sending and PCM2 is displaying that he receives something. But after finishig the addressbook is empty.

    Greetings

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronisation?

Nobody there, who likes to synchronize his/her mobile phone addressbook with the telephone adressbook of his/her Cayenne?

I can't beleive that I am the only one who desires this!

    Greetings

    It is an amazing thing!

    But, apparently true. Sorry.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronisation?

I would like to sync my Palm up but no way is available.

Where did you get the idea that this was possible? AK

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

    There you go!

It wasn't that no one was interested! It's just that no one knows how to do it!

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

it is just easy. Take your phone, palm or pocket pc and turn on the infrared port (everyone has one), then put it near to the PCM 2 on the right corner, near the upper buttons, there is the infrared port of PCM 2. After that you will see on your mobile phone or palm that there is another infrared device reachable (Porsche PCM 2). The next thing is to send your address book over infrared from you handheld.
My PCM 2 then receives something. I see a progress indicator in percent. But after the sending is complete nothing is to see in the address book.

    Greetings

    Adnan

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

I'm not sure the infrared port on the PCM2 is made for this purpose but of course I didn't check the manual yet.
With my phone, synchronization works pretty easy (although I don't need it because I have a "twin card", two SIM cards with the same phone number): I copy the content of the SIM card address/phone number memory to the PCM2 memory.
When I change the SIM card to a different number, the "old" phone numbers from the first SIM card are still there.
As Porsche doesn't offer a GSM phone on the US PCM2 (and I'll never get the idea why because it would be pretty easy to offer a GSM 850/1900 dual-band phone for the US instead of the GSM 900/1800 dual-band phone for most ROW markets), I suppose most US Cayenne owners aren't really interested in an address book synchronization.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

It may be useful to add a new dummy entry, directly into the PCM2. Then, attempt to upload that to the Palm to see what happens.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

As I know a little about the Palm,(www.thinairco.com) allow me to throw this in.

The IR Sync of the Palm is conduit dependant and as (to my knowledge) Porsche are not a licencee nor is Becker there is no chance of sending or recieving data over a link.

The activity you will see is an IR > IR industry standard serial handshake which will work whenever IR radios sense each other. Just establishing the link does not mean the 2 systems can actually talk, thats where the PalmOS conduit comes in.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

but for which purpose is the infrared port?

When I send my address book from my Sony Ericsson P900 then I see on the PCM 2 "receiving address book". So it must work on any way, some handshake do work and the protocol seems to be the same. Once I have succeeded to upload just one entry.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

I think it was designed for phones. The OS in your Ericsson is quite common across phone types, from what I was told the Siemens or Nokia may be more compatible.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

    I have tried:

    PocketPC with Windows (handheld)
    Nokia mobile phone
    Sony T681, T630 and P900

I have heard that someone (I don't know where I had heard/read about) has succseded.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

I think we have to do what we always do, read the palm/phone screen instead, after all its not much use anyway unless its a dialer.

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

Best solution, integrated PCM2 phone for ROW cars.
Porsche should really offer this option for the US (GSM 850/1900 instead of GSM 900/1800).

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

    Additional handpiece with Cayenne lettering...

    Re: PCM2 addressbook synchronization?

    RC,

According to my contacts at PCNA Atlanta, the Carrera GT will come with an all-world GSM 900/1800/1900 phone built into the car. They said this was a first for Porsche in the USA. I don't think anyone would miss GSM 850 here because I don't think it generally exists. I think all 850 service in the USA is AMPS.

Maybe this phone will spread to other models in the lineup in the future?

Your contact could be right but it is not an all-world phone. It still doesn't work in Japan and parts of South America.
As far as I heard, GSM 850 has just started in the US, using some "old" frequencies. I'm sure it'll get more popular as soon as more quad-band phones are available (like the Motorola V600 or the one I have, the Sharp GX30). The GX30 is by the way a great "spy phone", it has a 1 MP CCD digital camera and space for up to 1GB of data (SD card slot). I had to restraint myself for using it at the factory in Leipzig.

Well, maybe I took a little bit of dramatic license with his comment. He said it was standard in all Carrera GT markets. Does the CGT go to Japan?

    Your phone sounds very cool.

Well, it actually is (the only thing it can't do is making coffee... ) but Sharp offers now a 2 MP camera version in Japan. Picture quality of the 1 MP version is already impressive. All in the size of a Motorola V600.
