ALDO:Yesterday evening during dinner with ......... heard about GT4 RS with the GT3 RS 4.0 engine with around 450 hp.
I also heard the GT4 RS rumor coming from a racing team . I had big doughs when I was told, but what you heard tights together

Now the question is: how will it perform compared to the GT3 and what is the price tag?
To be cheaper than the next GT3 the GT4 RS will need to be slower, unless it is marketed with the magic "limited edition" label, in which case it can cost whatever they decide.
Regardless of what it should be an awesome car and it will be sold out before AP will even have a chance to declare it "his most favorite car to date".

bluelines:manual or PDK?
I think any RS is going to be PDK-S. I don't understand the point of using a 4.0 with less power than the 3.8...

This only makes sense in Porsche's marketing department, not to the rest of us

If GT4 has 450hp NA 4.0L motor, isn't it possible that this would be an enlarged Carrera S motor rather than a detuned 991 RS motor? The only reasonable way to use the RS motor for 50hp less would be to lower the redline and use a milder camshaft profile. Then all the fancy valvetrain would go to waste.
So, I would guess if the 500hp 991.2 GT3 is fast enough, this 981RS could fit below it in price and performance. But I would think the 981RS with PDK-S would be an interesting competitor on the track to a 991.2 GT3 with manual gearbox. I wonder if Porsche is intentionally setting up this battle?

Yeah lucky me. Managed to snag one car out of the 360 or so scheduled to be made from over 1000 orders.
The car is surprisingly cheap for a factory racer.
Base MSRP is only $165,000US
Only 4 options, (think that's the lowest count I have seen for a Porsche)
100L fuel tank for $4750
Upgrade to the Recaro Racing bucket from the GT3 Cup for $3900
Air jack for $4200
Air conditioning for $3500.
All in the outlay is only $181,350. There is also a $9500 spare parts package.
Best thing is, the car doesn't have any dedicated body panels like the other Porsche race cars, so it will be relatively cheap to fix if I get it damaged on the track.
Whoopsy:The rebel inside of me just came out.
Soon I will be a GT4 owner too.
But I will have the best one, the GT4 Club Sport.
Finally able to wrestle an allocation from PMNA. Confirmed for a July/August delivery.
Finally a proper car in your garage

Really was about time...

Sorry for bump vid quality...
Randy Pobst was there - he was quick in a 981 Spyder and was supposed to try to set a fast lap in new Mustang GT350, but I left before that. I'll have to find out from a friend what his time was.

BTW: Did you speak to Randy - seems to be a fun guy?
I didn't yesterday, but I've crossed paths with him several times over the years - very nice guy! He used to drive for a local race team, 3R Racing.

So you are faster and with much more ease then with your 911 . But is it as rewarding and fun ?

Gnil:So you are faster and with much more ease then with your 911 . But is it as rewarding and fun ?
The answer is definitely not. The 911 is way more fun - the 1,200 pound (545 kg) weight difference is just too much to be ignored and it is much more visceral and engaging. But the GT4 is much safer, comes with a warranty, and allowed me to play with you guys on the continent in a way that I would never use the 911
bluelines:...and it is way more fun than the heavy RS
I bet in some ways that could be true. The GT4 was really fun yesterday for a modern car! Although in the same general speed category as my modified Evo, it was far more entertaining to drive than that (and any other street car I have driven on track, except the 73 911 hotrod).
I have to confess that I have mixed feelings about trading the GT4 toward a new 991.2 GT3 with manual. If it wasn't for the strong draw of another Euro trip, I'm not sure that the 991 will be as fun as the lighter/smaller GT4 for 50% more money. While said repeatedly by others, I have to wonder whether a GT4 with the GT3 motor (and matching gearing in the manual) wouldn't make for the best current package?
