Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

the recent issue of Autoweek. The were given the opportunity to test drive it in Italy. They to say the least were VERY impressed. Their test results:

    0-60 3.5
    0-62 3.63
    0-100 7.06
    quarter mile 11.35 @ 129.5 mph
    0-100mph-0 11.06 882ft (mindboggling)
    lateral acceleration 0.95g

    Final paragraph of the article

"Sure, by any rational standard $440,000 is a ridiculous amount to even think about paying for a car, even two or three cars. But after one day in the company of the CGT, it really does begin to look dangerously like a bargain"

    I think they like it.

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

Woohoo! Now there's the numbers we were looking for! I am beginning to think I may like this machine .

EDIT: Man, they really poured adoration on the C-GT in this article. I just read it, and here is my favorite quote:

"the problem comes with the growing realization that "supercar" isn't going to be a strong enough word for us here, as there is a magnitude of difference between this
über Porsche and other more, well, ordinary supercars. The Carrera GT could eat any production Lamborghini for breakfast, spend the morning snacking on Aston Martins and then lunch on Ferraris. What we need here is new nomenclature, something understated, yet snappy. How about hyper-ultimate megacar?".

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

    Another qoute.

"It is a magical, slightly surreal experience: so much speed,
so little fear. You could scare yourself senseless going far slower in other, lesser Supercars."

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

Seems to be the best sportscar on the planet (I hope Enzo owners don't mind ).

I recently read a quote I liked along the lines: "It's more fun going fast in a slow car, than going slow in a fast car".

But I guess AutoWeek was thinking in terms of going fast in a super fast car.

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

Honestly, Nick: if somebody would give me now 500000 Euro as a gift and say "do what you want with this money", I'd go immediately for the Carrera GT and it would be probably the last sportscar I ever buy. I'm not kidding. Unfortunately I still have to work for my money and I'm happy to be able to afford a Cayenne Turbo and I'm also happy to have friends like CF who brought me a little bit closer to a dream car.

BTW: somebody asked me yesterday what I would buy with 150000 Euro. Well, I have three personal favorites: Lamborghini Gallardo (my favorite choice right now), GT3 (RS) or the 996 Turbo Cab with powerkit.

And a last word about that "bargain" comment: maybe CF remembers when we watched the CGT production in Leipzig that I told him, after watching how the CGT is built and what kind of parts are used, that this car is actually a bargain.
I know that Porsche still earns big money with the CGT but it is worth every cent.

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

Maybe Nick changes his mind about the CGT when he sees what kind of attention it will draw at his country club.
This is probably the most important criteria in chosing a sportscar for him considering his remarks about the possibility
to use the performance of the CGT on US roads, not to mention his 360 spider.

    Hey CF,

    I'm shocked!

That comment is more subtle than some of the things I have written to Nick, but also more barbed!

That 0-100-0 is absolutely nuts. Is it one of those tests where they didn't factor in transition time? Or does it just have the most phenomenal brakes ever?

4 sec doesn't seem that tough to believe on 100-0 given it only takes 104 ft (0-100 is 7).

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

Ben - I don't think it's possible for any road car to stop from 100mph in 104ft. Are you sure you're not using the number for 100kph instead?

In the August, 2003, issue of Road and Track, they post the results of the magazine's BEST EVER TIMES in the 0-100 mph -0 event.

Their fastest car times to that date were:

    1. Ferrari Enzo 11.7 seconds
    2. Porsche 911 Turbo 13.5

So, no, that time is appropriate.

BTW, their 'rabbit' was a Kawasaki ZX-9R at 11.5 seconds.
By comparison with other cars, the Viper SRT-10 did 13.9 seconds. The Mercedes SL55 AMG was 15.1 seconds.

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

RC, I told you after seeing the manner and materials, with which the GT is painstakingly built, that this Porsche is the
correct value ! It is a hand built, full race car !
I hope that you had a great time down here in Florida . Next
time you must come and visit us @ Champion ! Revvv

Re: Those of you waiting for a CGT your going to like

Grant, yep it was 60 to 0! However, after riding in it, I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd done 100 to 0 in 104 :-) That was by far the most braking Gs I've ever experienced.
