    Perhaps you might recall some early 997 discussion about what on the 997 was carried over from the 996,--they have said the roof. For the hardtop, it is the same,--but keep in mind that you have to install the mounting kit in the 997 to accept the top. There are more 996 tops floating around,--they were essentially thrown in for the 996s (discounted slightly if not taken). Many dealerships wound up with surplus tops.

    I found this 2" wide strapping, which is much wider than the 3/4" you spec'd. Do you think that is better or worse?

    Scotty--that stuff should work fine. A bit overkill. Keep in mind that this is only a 73 lb top. Suggest an outdoor store,--what you can get is 3/4 inch flat tape,--best is a climbing store. I can send you detail shots of the fittings later.

    I don't understand. What is the mounting kit?? How much is it and what does it consist of.

    The mounting kit: I have heard 2nd source that it will run about $1800. It's the vehicle side of the hardtop setup. In short, it is the mounting of the receptables, the running of the wiring harness and such that will enable the rear window to heat up when the hardtop is installed. Apparently it is no simple matter. (Hence the reason so many people abandon the idea of a hardtop if they didn't order it in the first place).
