    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

I've owned my 997 S since March 2006, when I bought it brand new. I've owned some model of Porsche since I was 19, so I am not new to the marque. Less than a month after owning it, I had the front rotors replaced for free by my dealer since they were warped. Not long after that, my new set has the same vibration but I was out of the timeframe where they replace "wear and tear" items for free. I decided to keep it like that since the vibration is not too noticeable and don't feel like paying for items that may warp again shortly. What would be the point? I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I'd like to hear from others that may share the same experience.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

    I've had:

    * Rotor issues. Caused due to corrosion of rotors - or more accurately brake pad compound binding onto rotors. This is also known as "warping", which I believe doesn't exist - the vibration is caused by the pads hitting the residue pad material which has chemically bonded to the rotors when they get wet or when humidity is high. Rather than pay $$$ to my OPC to fix, I took the car out one day and absolutely thrashed it around some country lanes with v heavy braking before corners, and this eventually cured it. Good fun too. I understand the reason this happends is a) that the steel used for the rotors is not v high quality and b) the pad material, being high performance formulation, is not as water resistant as pad material for normal vehicles. The pad material swells when wet and binds to the rotor. When you move away, the car resists then goes clunk - that's you shearing off a thin layer of pad material. Which has now chemically bonded to the rotor.

    * Sensor issues which caused the TPMS to fail. A sensor broke on the TPMS. Not a major issue, but a bit annoying nevertheless.

    * Slightly worried about the clutch. Not convinced the self adjustment feature works properly - clutch pedal goes very soft if you are reversing up a hill and slipping the clutch a bit. Makes me feel v nervous when that happens.

Otherwise perfect. The pleasure/pain ration is very high for me; a satisfied customer - I like it the more I drive it. Now I just want a GT3 (and the $$$ to pay for it).

    SoS.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

I purchased my S in March 06 also and it 67 miles on it and the front rotors were replaced due to "bad batch imperfections", according to the dealer.
It's been fine for the last 7K miles now.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

15K and no issues to mention outside of factory recalls, which included the following:
    1. tailpipes replaced
    2. wiring harness between doors and footpanels resealed + panels were installed under hood on both sides of battery to deflect water away from area.
    3. cable between shifter and transmission checked for kinks and straighted via bracket.
    4. front hood bolts replaced
    5. air filter housing replaced
    6. oil tube/neck replaced
    7. checked tightness of bolts in steering wheel (air bag)

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

16months with the car 24000km and only one major prolem re pcm module failure (took them 3 times of replacing before they got it right) but I blame the dealership (personnel involved) rather than Porsche on this. Dealership just didn't have the capability of dealing with the software programming aspects. Other than that a big happy smile on my face every time I get in the car

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Sorry for my delay in responding re: clutch issue.

It's one of those things that is annoying enough to have them look at it when going in for something else, but not bad enough for me to make a special trip to the dealer in the early a.m. Maybe I'll get around to it soon.
