Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

Hey guys, by any chance do you think the Turbo S will look more like the new GT2 from the front? Link: Spy Pics

ie. have the Turbo and Turbo S ever differed aesthetically?

I know that Porsche typically releases the S version 2 years after the TT which would make its launch about 2008.

I am just trying to estimate when the Turbo will get a face-lift as I vastly prefer the front end of the GT2 but am not in the market to pay Pounds130k+ for one.

Porsche IMHO also needs to sort out the design of the back of the Turbo, especially in regards to having a dual-pipe PSE and rear LED lights. Perhaps I will have to wait until the 997.5 face-lift or even the 998 TT around 2012...

    Cheers,

    -Alex

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

Cant be really sure but I'm thinking the S should have some exterior changes if it comes around the same time as the MKII 997 series.
If not, then one can probably just expect badging differences (of course) and some carbon fibre in the engine bay like X51... Theres always the aerokit when it is released as well.

I know this doesnt really help but it's just my 2c...

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

I am also assuming that the Turbo S will be a 3.8L and have more BHP than a Turbo with powerkit. I am trying to find a thread with the latest rumors on this...

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

Just found RC's latest rumor post:

    Quote:

997 GT2, MY 2008, aprox. 520 HP, aprox. 320 kph top speed, aprox. 50 kg less weight compared to 997 Turbo. Just a more "solid" rumor.
997 Turbo Powerkit, aprox. 510 HP, no overboost, 317 kph top speed.

So where on earth does that leave space for the Turbo S?! 515bhp?!

Or would the S be a power-kitted/face-lifted/MarkII/3.6L/Turbo with a few optional extras like PCCB thrown in?

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

I have heard that they the new Gt2 is ready and we will know everything till the end of this year.. (Porsche doesnt want to introduce everything together. It introduced the targa version now) also I believe that the car will be at least 530hp with TC and PASM. Manual gearbox unfortunately only..

Remember it shouldnt really matter performance wise if the Turbo S and GT2 are have close HP numbers.... The GT2 will be quite a bit lighter so acceleration should still be much better...

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

i think your right about porsche not wanting to release everything new at once, the aren't stupid in the marketing dept except sometimes, anyway the new christophorus indicated the GT3RS will not be available to the u.s. market till spring '07, so factor that into the new model guessing game....help,rc

It wouldn't surprise me if the X50 and the Turbo S were one and the same thing, as far as the engine is concerned.

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

What makes you think it would look different? Didn't the 996 tubo S look identical to the 996Turbo except for the badging? I am not aware of any difference in the two cars other than more power and brakes.

But then again, ALL Porsche's look alike to me.

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

sorry off-topic I know, but can someone help me understand the powerkit codes? Is it:

  • X50 for 996 and X51 for 997
  • X50 for 3.6L and X51 for 3.8L
  • X50 for Turbo and X51 for Carrera

    ?

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

The 997 turbo S will look very similar to the 997 turbo. Cosmetic changes will be just like the 996 turbo to turbo S. S badge's, PCCB's and maybe different wheel finish. It wont have the GT2 front bumper, all imo.

There were design differences in case of the 993TT/TTS.

However, I agree that chances are high that there will be no (optical) differences between 997TT and 997TTS/x50. Porsche will probably use the "S" model to support sales when the 997TT approaches the end of its life-cycle. Same procedure as in case of the 996TTS.

BTW: I would expect x50 to be available in calendar year 2008 (MY09).

Re: Turbo S - will it look exactly like the current Turbo?

They might wisen up and use LED taillights.

Yep. Should've come standard. I'm surprised they aren't selling them for 1000 EUR each through Tequipment .
