Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Hi folks. I got some news today from my dealer, and wanted to ask for advice from those of you on the forum with experience in ordering Porsche cars.

I had a build date of 9/14. Around 9/15 or 9/16, my sales manager told me that there was a "Quality Control Hold" on my car, and that it would be a few days before it got onto a ship for the US.

The car arrived at the port (Brunswick GA) last week, and I was told today that there was another "QC Hold" on the car, that Porsche representatives were being dispatched for the port to check mine and other cars, and that I wouldn't be taking delivery this week.

Does this sound normal to you guys?

Should I expect to be informed of the extent of both of these quality control issues? If its a loose bolt or a torn seat, thats one thing ... if its a problem with the AWD or transmission, thats another ...

Thanks in advance for your responses and advice.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Hi madman. Last week I received the same news from my dealer. My 997TT arrived in Brunswick on 10/02/06! I'm still waiting for it to be delivered to the dealer in SC.

I was told that there was a QC hold due to some issue with the brakes, both steel and PCCB are impacted. My salesman didn't know for sure, but he suspected it had something to do with addressing brake squeal.

I'm trying to be patient before protesting to PCNA.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

I suspect this is related to the brake pads. A technical alert on noisy brakes on both types has been around a few days. I think they just change the pads. Hopefully this is it and you will get your cars ASAP.

I've had my 997TT for just over a month and have noticed the brake noise, I have the steel brakes.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Thanks to both of you for the info. I'll try to sit tight for a few days and wait to see what happens.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

mine is a steel brake launch car. i have noticed very minor brake noise at lower speeds. i'm wondering when porsche will do a re-call notification to address this issue. i haven't persued it with the dealer yet since it really is minor at this point. i have just under 2k miles to date.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

not trying to stir the pot but you better hope it has nothing to do with the paint work finish on the car. That would be terrible.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

    roadtrip,

Same here, I have 1K and brake squeak every so ofter at low speed light braking...like in a parking lot. Agree it's very minor....really like the car.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Mine also on QC hold in Brunswick. I think it will apply to all cars

Yea, that's right cheer him up, maybe the car was dropped while unloading it?

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Hey folks, I spoke with someone from PCNA today. He says the QC hold is related to body panel fit, that it affects all 911 variants currently at port in Brunswick, Halifax, and Baltimore, as well as some 911s that have apparently already made it to dealer lots. I'll post more as I learn more.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

madman, do you know if that's only for those going through these ports or is it for ALL Porsches coming to the US including San Diego?

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Hi Atomic, the guy I spoke with today only mentioned those three ports - Baltimore, Brunswick and Halifax. Perhaps he didnt mention San Diego because he knows I'm on the east coast ??

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

    I heard the same.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

My salesman today informed me the hold is due to a improperly fastened xxx inside the doors on about 500 911tt's. They are having to refasten whatever component it is with the correct adhesives and insulation to prevent the rattle.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Would be interested in knowing what exactly is rattling in case I notice it on my car.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Has this issue been resolved yet and the cars released? My dealership hasn't been able to find out if my car down in San Diego has been affected by this QC hold. Anyone have some information about if this affected mine too?

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Ughhhh! My car still has not left Brunswick. Salesman is putting in a call to his rep.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

I picked up my car a week ago and I have noticed a very slight vibration/rattle coming from the passenger side door area. It seems to ocur at highway speeds (~100-120km/hr) but it does not occur all the time. I am going to contact my dealer today to see what they say.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

My sales guy just called, saying my car was released and is awaiting a truck to bring it from Brunswick to Atlanta. Should have it by Friday, he says.

I hope that you guys get your cars soon.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

madman, you're the first to get that piece of news. I hope that mine is released soon too.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Mine completed production 10/6 and has yet to leave the factory....normally cars are accumulated and shipped within 5 days. My dealer also said he has 11 other cars in the same status....boxers, caymens, 911's, etc.

    Arrgh......

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

I am wondering if this QC Hold is delaying the normal shipping process from the Porsche factory????

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Supposedly the entire batch being held at Brunswick was released today. My car made the truck and should be here by Friday

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

    Congratulations eclou!

Because of your significant technical knowledge, we all await your initial impressions!

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

The technical considerations go out the window if the car can make me giggle like a raving lunatic. I am hoping it is so invigorating that it will lead to my committment into an asylum

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Looks like things are getting back to normal, I reached ONVESL status today.....

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Hope that mine arrives at the dealership soon too.

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Jason, are you still on track for next week or has the port hold pushed your car back a little?

Re: Seeking advice re QC Hold on my new 997 Turbo

Tony, I think that the port hold has pushed back delivery a bit..no idea at this point.
