    Porsche 911 997 Quality

O.K., let's hear from real owners on this. A snapshot in time.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Have my 06 for almost a year with no porblem except with a minor leather cut from the passenger seat hinge cover. Was fixed by PCNA and is happy with it so far.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Had mine nearly 12 months and only:

    - few rattles (expected with Cab) > all fixed by OPC
    - minor boot lid realignment > fixed by OPC
    - rattle with retro-fitted PSE > fixed by OPC
    - few standard recall fixes, none of which I really knew anything about

So nothing major. Very happy with the quality thankyou

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Only replace the exhaustpipes, but that is not a problem i guess.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Clutch squeaky clicky sound, fixed, problem returned.
    Adaptive Sport seat broke. fixed.
Bolt cap by windscreen wiper flew off. replaced.
    Owned about 90days

Do seem like you have some issue for only 90 days of ownership. What happen to your sport seat???

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Have owned since the middle of march. No problems that information in the Owners or PCM manual did not solve.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

After 1&1/2 years of ownership I have had exactly one problem. The airbag module went bad requiring a visit to the dealer. Other than that, the car has functioned as it should.

The car has been an absolute joy to own. The dealer service has been fantastic and the maintenance costs minimal. The cost of maintenance on the CS2, on a per mile basis, is less than what it costs to maintanin a trouble free Infiniti G35x and an equally trouble free VW Jetta TDI.

Porsche has designed and built these cars to run without a lot of maintenance and it shows. The ownership experience in terms of quality and maintenance is better than any quality car product I have owned. For a complex car, they got a lot of things right.

I would buy another Porsche product (maybe not in the first year though !).

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

After reviewing postings on Rennteam and Rennlist I studied the faults that many of you have experienced. Ordering a tourist delivery, I was a bit concerned that I would be out in the middle of a remote section of Europe somewhere when something would fail and the car would simply die on the spot.

The computer never once reported a flaw,--and the same has happened in the states, once the car was delivered the second time to me. Have had the car since 13 June 06 (about 3 weeks) and then again on 7 Sep 06 for 6 weeks. Have amassed about 4400 miles on the car. It is still performing extremely well.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Had my 06 997 since August 2005...6500k miles, doing fine.
Oil housing came lose once and had to be tightened, but otherwise A+...no issues!!

Back tire tread went bye bye a little early, but guess what now I check the air pressure, my PS2's better stay going for awhile!!

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

    Hi All,
A word of explanation. I started this thread because someone posted lower ratings for Porsche in a recent JD Power survey. I thought, who better to comment than we, actual owners. This is not a case of "We did not come to praise Ceasar but to bury him" but rather a feeling that problems have probably been few and minor. My 911 was delivered with a bad sensor error and several were replaced (to my consternation & annoyance) until a loose ground wire was found to be the culprit. Car has been flawless since; just like a Japanese car but alot more fun.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

I've had mine 22 months, 28 days and 15 hours. Except for a few times in the back seat of my dad's 1968 396 Chevelle, I have never had the emotional highs like I've had after a Porsche Club of America "driver education" session. The car is awsome! So the rain sensor that had to be installed by the dealer because Helmut was thinking about Hinnie when my car was assembled doesn't matter. The rear main oil seal that had to be replaced doesn't matter. And the recall for the shifter cables and the exhaust tips don't matter either.
I imagine the guys hooked on Ferrari's put up with more, and like me, don't mind because the balance of the experience is so positive.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

comin upto 2 years and it's been perfect!

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Just about one week (a bit over 700 mi): European delivery- it was nearly perfect.

The only issue was my big foot knocked off the Sports-style footrest the second day ( slide back in place w/o further problems).

I want my baby back, baby back....

I have had a similar problem with my clutch. Mine makes a couple of clicking sounds as the pedal is released. They lubercated it and it was fine for a couple of weeks but it had come back.

I also had a problem with the horn--had to be replaced.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Two years and 12,000 miles of ownership -

    1) plastic housing for the rear view mirror fell off. I put it back, no big deal.
    2) RMS replacement at 5200 miles. Dealer replaced it and no problem since.
    3) Audio from the stereo was muted. Didn't matter which radio station. This has happened 2 or 3 times since I've owned the car. If I shut down the car and start it up again, the problem goes away.
    4) Once in a while, the stereo would not remember where it left off when starting up the car. For example, it would start playing the CD when I last was listening to a radio station.
    5) Once, after a rain or a car wash, it took an extra long distance before the brakes would stop the car. I have PCCB's. The very next time I applied the brakes, everything was fine.
    6) Squeaking from the brakes. Was told by the dealer to find an area with no traffic and apply brakes firmly. Squeaking went away.
    7) Early on, the car would not start. Very rare. Solution was to switch key and remove, then replace and restart.
    8) NAV gave me wrong directions the first two times I used it. Once was when it told me to keep going on the freeway when I needed to exit to go to the Porsche dealership in Westlake Village, CA.

Other than that, the car is very enjoyable and a pleasure to own.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Owned my 997S for 18 months and haven't had any repairs.

    Phil

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

I must say the car has been the only bright spot besides the factory paint blemish on the door, that one dealership wanted to paint half the car to fix!

The buying process (dealerships) was unacceptable. The arrangement of Euro Delivery was a lot of extra work and you pay for that extra work(they should hire a new team to do it right), but the car has been the bright spot! Oh, that C4S at 170mph.

    All is right again

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Had a seat/side mirror. fault, the memory was gone and the side mirror wouldn't go down when gear put in reverse, dealer reprogram the system , all is well, that was the only problem in 13 months of ownership.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

My CD player never worked. Freaky PCM system crashes even effected sunroof operation) Two or three trips to service for them to figure it out (to make fix permanent).

Uneven soot on rear quads (really freaks me out when I think about it). Could be a bad cylinder.

    That's about all.

Oh, TPMS is about three or four pounds off (pi**es me off, no time to bring it in, waiting for something else to go wrong).

CONCLUSION: this car is __GOING___ when warrenty runs out.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Navigation system when new then subsequesnt config. problems when dealer changed it. Overpressure tyres on delivery (understeer....) rattles from instrument pod cured by piece of rubber stuck between tacho and hood, ongoing resonance from bose speaker in passenger door. Nothing major really.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Just small stuff like rattling rear speaker, noisy clutch mech., exhaust recall, hesitation etc. The worst part of the whole thing is the dealer experience.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

The problem with my adaptive sport seat was that the F'ing lumbar support got stuck in a near-fully inflated setting. This meant I had to drive the thing for almost 2 hours with a big blob stuck in my lower back. It required two trips to the dealer to get it fixed, and the buttheads left small bits of paper debris in my car.

The clutch problem is quite annoying because the problem has come back, there's a known bulletin out for it, and many/most owners just seem to tolerate the problem. I shouldn't have to take my clutch back to the dealer once a month for lube to avoid the loud creaking noise (you can hear it over the car's driving noises plus stereo).

Has anyone here besides yemenmocha and I had this problem with their clutch? We should not just tolerate problems like this. These cars are too expensive to allow these types of problems to go unmentioned to Porsche.

What does this bulletin you spoke of say. Does it mention what causes the noise and what they are supposed to do to fix it?

I just remembered--I also had a problem with a short in one of the lights in the vanity mirror above the passenger seat. I actually noticed it on the way home from picking the car up at the dealer--loose wire fixed by my local dealer.

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

Mine has got the clicking noise as I release the cluch. What does the bulletin say about fixing it? What causes it?

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

6 months of ownership. The problems were:

    - Noise from the passenger door. Door pocket hinge is rubbing against the side air-bag in the door. Fixed. Two visits to the dealer.
    - Valcro-like noise coming from the rear window area. 6 visits to the dealer. After many attempts and Remove/Install almost everything behind the front seats (including R&I rear side windows) the dealer figured that the roof panel clips and panel are rubbing. 70% Fixed, but it took three months. For me, it was 3000 miles of unpleasant driving. Still I am not 100% happy with the fix and all the unnecessary R&I.

Other than these two problems, the car is fine (so far)

    Re: Porsche 911 997 Quality

No problems at all with 997. With Cayenne I had problems...sold it. Worst car with problems I ever owned was a Jeep that had more miles being towed than driven...sold.
