986 or 987 ??
986 is definitely possible, a few guys in the UK have done this - you need a new column stalk module, one with all the levers, rather than your current 2 (or 3 if you have obc) unit, and then it to be turned on by the OPC in the configuration options within the diagnostics.
For 987 ? - i'd be interested myself - the parts diagrams for the steering column show the cruise lever as a separate column stalk, so easily bolted in, and a single cable to the wiper stalk above. You will also need a replacment lower casing for the steering column, to accept the extra column stalk. I guess it will need configuring again at the dealer.

More intersting than my last two black 986's!
Interesting combination alongside my own cobalt 987 - metropole top, ocean blue, with aluminium effect centre console and roll bars. Your choice sounds superb, very nearly chose that scheme myself.

its worth a try - i do wonder whether you also need extra switches under the brake and clutch pedals, to deactivate cruise if you brake or depress the clutch ??
