2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

I am new to this board. What a site! I had a 2000 boxster which I traded for a 2005 boxster (carman red). Dealer called me and said he had a deal on this 911. It was a Porsche"demo", driven by a corporate regional sales manager out of Atlanta. Car has heated seats, nav, 19" carerra wheels, bose system, auto temp. feature, etc. I paid 68500 and gave them the boxster. 7000 equity in the boxster. 911 had a sticker price of 93500. Did I get a decent deal on this? I love the yellow! I think I am the only person on this board who does not have the S version of this car. Handles like a dream and has all the power I could ever need. Any suggestions for performance upgrades would be appreciated also. Thanks!!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

You will truly find yourself in the minority. I guess the ratio of normal to S cars must be at least 1 to 4.

Good luck with it,--and post pictures of the new wheels!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

    Welcome!

If it handles like a dream and has all the power you'd ever need why look for performance mods? My suggestion is to enjoy your yellow cab the way it is. It's an amazing car, you already bought it, and if you worry that it's not an S then it'll take away from the experience. Now post some pics!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Sounds beautiful! Congrats!!! Post some pics!!!!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

I'm not worried it's not an S. I would like it to sound a little better though. Unfortunatly, one of my other expensive hobbies is Harley Davidson motorcycles. I allways chage the pipes, and add a power commander chip to my bikes. I figure there is something along those lines for the Porsche cars. Also, How do you post a pic on this site???? It does not seem to be in the FAQ's...

Size the pic to between 600 & 800 pixels wide first then browse and select the pic during the preview post (check box to preview and/or attach file) and then submit.

Agree that the exhaust needs improvement over stock. Most will have PSE and do the full-on mod but there are other systems that some have. Just do a search here and you'll find a few threads about it. I was going to do an EVO chip and cold-air intake but salesperson advised against the chip.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

I would not have second thoughts about the S. I drove both and really on a "test drive" I could not tell you which was which. I am sure if I had them both out to "really" drive, then I could tell you the difference. Truth is that I only drive in the real world. Handling is the same and that is really more important. The Cabrio knock the ferormance down too, but I donot see people making a fuss over "crap I bought a cabrio and it is going to hurt the performance". No, they just put the top down and and the smile on!!! The current 997 is more powerfull than the pre997 cars, so it remains a solid car. I think you have a solid and class machine.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

    here is some pics...

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

I added the cold air kit right after I got the car. Am considering the fabspeed sport exhaust and tips as well... I am having a hell of a time figuring out how to post pics here!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

    one more.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Congratulations, she is a beauty...non S is more car than most people will ever need, enjoy it and don't second guess your good deal!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Great looking P-car, nice road too in the previous pic!
    I believe it's spelled Cabriolet.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Oh my yellow fellow, love the instrument dial and the seat belts!!!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Thanks! I was not real crazy about the yellow belts and dials at first. Since I bought this off the lot, I didn't have any choice in options. What the car actually came with was...

    Black mats with Porsche lettering
    Power seat package
    Bi-Xenon headlight package
    Heated front seats
    Self dimming mirrors
    19" classic carrera Wheels
    Wheel caps with colored crest
    Navigation for PCM
    Bose high end sound system
Remote 6 CD changer in trunk
    Instrument dials in speed yellow
    Seat belts-Speed yellow

Because the car was a Porsche company car, it had 4800 miles on it when I bought it.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

...and whille your a it; give us a picture of your other hobby; the harley !

You boys & girls really like pictures!! Here she is.. 2005 screamin eagle electra glide..

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

    Nice car and bike. Congrats.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

I doesn't look like you have to go very far to find some cool back roads to drive your new P-car or bike on. Enjoy!!!

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

With the Xenon lights you're halfway to an S anyway. You are just missing a few horses, which you won't really notice unless you push the car harder than it's safe to do on a public road. The best part is the Cab; I love my Cab. And I'm a former Boxster owner too.

I laughed at the yellow cars I saw at the dealer, but I didn't see a Cab. Yours looks great.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

One of the advantages of living in the middle of nowhere!! We do have alot of nice roads and NO COPS!! The big disadvantage is we get very poor cell phone reception back here. How is it where you live? I have been to both Ireland and London. I saw a few Porsche clubs riding around the Dublin area when I was there,

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Welcome to RENNTEAM! Congrats on the 997.

Congrats on your new 997! Don't sweat the non-S. I'm a non-S owner too and I do not regret buying it.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

I notice from picture number 3, that you haven't changed your main PCM screen. I found the information being displayed on the main screen quite boring. The "Trip" screen is more fun.

You can actually change what is displayed on the main screen. I have mine set in such a way that the screen is split with the left side displaying driving time, distance, average mph, and fuel economy (similar to the "Trip" screen). The right side of the screen displays the radio information, temperature, date, and time.

If you are curious this is from section 2.2.2 of the PCM manual (page 27). Be sure you are in the "Main" screen (press Main).
    Press "Set"
    Dial to "Main Display"
    Press select
    Dial to "Main Display"
    Press select
    Dial to "Trip Computer"
    Press select.

Now press the "Main" button again. To me this is gives more pertinent information when I am driving.

    Enjoy.

Re: 2006 997 cabroliet, speed yellow, black int.

Thanks for the info on the PCM. I'll change it tommorow. I noticed from your pictures that your exhaust is simillar to the S version. Can you tell me what you did here?

I have PSE (the sports exhaust.) You will find a lot of threads discussing the merits of PSE. PSE can be added by your dealer, it does not have to be only installed at build time.

PSE has valves in the mufflers that open and close, diverting the exhaust flow past the muffler and out the "smaller" exhaust pipes. This gives a much richer sound from the exhaust. The system is computer controlled and will baffle the exhaust sound during certain speed and RPM combinations. This, I believe, is due to noise ordinances in some countries. There are few ways to get around that cut off if you so desire. I haven't done the mod to mine as I am quite happy with the PSE as it works by default.

Do a search for PSE and you will find many threads on Rennteam. [I've happily used Google to assist with searching Reenteam when I am blocked from searching too often. For example, "pse site:rennteam.com" in Google will return PSE threads].

PSE is a MUST HAVE option!!! Do some research and I bet that you'll be placing an order for one from your dealer quite quickly!

    :-)
