Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

This is from the Porsche Service Information 2007 Technik Introduction 911 GT3:

"The basic functions are the same as the current 911 generation,
allowing increased sportiness and even more direct responsiveness to
be achieved for the purpose of enhancing vehicle agility.
However, pressing the "Sport" button not only selects a sportier
performance, but also activates an engine map with enhanced torque and
    power output.
When the "Sport" button is pressed, this increases the engine torque
by up to 18 ft lbs (25 Nm) in the mid-rpm range and selects a sporty
    tuning for traction control (TC).
In the sports setting, the exhaust backpressure in the variable
exhaust system is reduced, the gas cycle improved and the torque
noticeably increased in the rpm range between approx. 3,000 and 4,200
rpm. This leads to an increase in the torque values of between 15 and
18 lbs (20 and 25 Nm) and an increase in the power output of 13 bhp."

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

has nothing to do with Chrono function on the GT3 as the Sport button is standard and does not require Chrono...

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

so performance is the same, WITH or WITHOUT the sports chrono package???

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

ok, so we understand pressing the "sport" button will have performance gains... my main question is - is this sport button standard on the GT3 ?? Or do you have to buy the sport chrono to have that button, I am guessing the button is standard, and all the sport chrono gets you is the stopwatch... am I correct? Anyone know this for 100% certain?

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

    Sport Button is STANDARD!

when "Sport" mode is selected, as much as 18.44 lb.-ft. of additional torque is available in the medium rev range, i.e., below the point of maximum torque.

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

^ thats what it sure looks like, looking through the info on porsche's website it shows sport chrono as an option - but in the info makes NO mention of the performance advantage of the "sport" button - however for the 997S the sport chrono had some obvious benefits.

I think that settles it, unless something got lost in the translation, heh

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

Can you please tell me why are you so sure that the Sport button is standard on a GT3?

When in doubt about Porsche think about economics.

If the Sport button didn't come standard and only came with Sport Chrono (with the additional torque), why would Porsche charge less for the SC option on the GT3 than on every other car that they sell?

Answer: Because it does less than it does on every other Porsche - just a timer function. On every other car it has some real or perceived performance advantage

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

Nice post but what I would really like to see it's a quote from Porsche. Anyone?

The "Sport" button is part of the standard PASM on the GT3.

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

As everyone has said, Sport button is standard per PCNA. Saw interior pics of actual delivered GT3 (Euro) with sport button, but no wart.

Also notice on Porsche web site it called the "Chrono Package" for the GT3 and not the "Sports Chrono package" like the regular 997s

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

If you follow that link and read it carefully it refers to the sport setting of PASM which adjusts shock damping. The "sport" button everyone is referring to is a different item which adjusts throttle response, mid-range torque and traction control and has nothing to do with PASM. It might be standard but as yet I have not seen any proof of that. My dealer called PCNA and he did not get a straight answer from them. Just to make sure I ordered mine with Chrono.

The button that controls the sport setting for PASM looks like a shock absorber (part of PASM). The button that changes the motor's response says "Sport" and is part of the standard equipment for the GT3. When you order Chrono, you don't get any Sport buttons, you just control the timer (its only function) with the stalk by the steering wheel.

I have a GT3 in my garage without Chrono so the answer is yes...

but you could also read the configurator...

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

I think the question refers to U.S. cars, we'll know pretty soon when US cars start coming in next month.

Re: Interesting info. on GT3 Sport Chrono function

Sport button is STANDARD in all 997 GT3 according to PCNA. My salesperson called in front of me when I posted the same question.

It's the same as ROW on this issue...

Thank you TEE1. Could you post a picture?
I want to settle this with a friend of mine.

    Thank you TEE1!

Here is the answer I got from my friend, I quote: "Let's hope it's not part of the Sport Club package!"
