    auto dimming mirrors retrofit

    Hi all, I have a 2006 C4 Cab. Had it for 6 months now almost 10,000 miles makes for a very nice commute, love it. I picked all my options, but I really regret not getting the auto-dimming mirrors. Its only an issue with the top down at night, cause bright headlights hit you from all directions (instaed of just the rear view in a coupe.)

    Does anyone know how/if they can be retrofitted? I spoke with two dealer service depts and they say its not doable because it requires a different front wiring harness.

    I would appreciate any feedback.

    That sounds strange...I know that the parts are around $300 for each side. That's just for the mirrors itself although I'm not sure about whether the wiring is already in place or not.

    I have a 2005 997S coupe with the same issues (headlights blinding me at night from behind the car). This is one option that is a must have and I too overlooked this. I have asked my dealership to notify me when something is available. Tequipment does have the part + the harness but only for the 996. This is a major irritation at night and one would think that this option would be standard in a $90K car? Its not, and its one option that will be a "no brainer" for me in the future.

    I don't think that's possible. I checked with several different dealers / aftermarket shops and they all told me it could not be done. (I have a 05 Carrera S.)

    Love the colors.

    Mine is same - Blue/Blue/Beige, I added the hardtop.

    Same option list as well, minus the wheel caps and steering wheel.

    The interior self dimming mirror requires a power source. This may not be there in the existing wiring harness.

    In all honesty, I've been embarrased to mention this to anyone. I mean how do you say to someone who doesn't have a porsche that glare from headlights annoys me They'd look at me like I was an alien... An alien with a sweet porsche that is.

    Interesting, I didn't know it was available for the 996. Thats promising, perhaps its on the way for the 997. I may have to call PCNA and ask them to look into when & if this may be available. I found the 996 ones, but it was on britains porsche site.

    As far as I have heard so far on the 997s, the entire wiring harness is customized to the order,--so without that ordered from the factory all associated wiring is deleted. I would venture to say that it could be done, but it will be neither simple nor inexpensive.

    Retrofit is a cheap and easy procedure on 996 however I still could not get a lead on 997 either. My car does not have it (bought it off the floor and actually never took it into account until I realized later) I have been desperately waiting and every night I am getting pissed at how a car this caliber does not have it standart.
