    Ford GT vs 997TT

    The 997TT is my 5th 911 turbo('86,91.97.01 07 and it is a great car.However I an feeling some buyers remorse as this turbo is not the "king of the road" that the other ones were.I know I'm probably being silly but now with the Z06 running around the 997TT is no longer the "King" as far as acceleration is concerned.I've been thinking of selling the tt and getting an '06 Ford GT (40).
    I know it boils down to personal decision but I respect the opinion of the people on this board and would appreciate your thoughts on moving to the GT.Does anyone happen to own both that could give a good comparison?

    GT is a beautiful car. Has such ostentatious presence and American soul...Nevertheless, I've heard it has had problems mechanically (recall issues, quality control issues up the wazooo) and I think its engine is a piece of junk (Supercharged SVT Lighting F150 engine).

    I am not sure your going improve in perf by going to a Ford GT. No doubt the GT looks more exotic and has a better sound. But for everyday use the TT is the better car.

    These observations are based on extensive reviews of each car.

    You have to ask yourself what is the purpose of ownship? Is it perf, exclusivity, practicality, track use? Depending on your needs you can make an informed judgment.

    Just 1,

    I sat in a GT40 last weekend And checked it out in detail. Was told by dealer that the owner had it for 2 weeks and traded in for 997TT. It's a beauty but not for daily drive. I didn't like the seat view, the shifter feel and the doors with the partial roof integrated into them. You have to duck when you close the door so your head will clear and I about knocked myself out when I hit the door line roof extension with my head getting out. The engine is the F150 5.4L, I have a F150 and have no issues but not sure how this will hold up at 550hp. A lot of the car looks not quite ready for production, kind of a bolt on non-professional sense. Similar to what a prototype would look like in detailed examination.

    I wouldn't trade my 997TT for the GT40. If you are looking for more speed wait for the GT2 or mod the 997TT from a reliable source (Ruf for example). I agree the 997TT is a compromize between raw performance and a GT car, but Porsche did a pretty good job on both IMO.

    I rather have a real world king of the road than something that only works well on paper driven by expert drivers on track.

    I agree with Nick, for once a week driving; its more special maybe, although Id still be tempted by a gallardo, but if your going to use it, the 997 all the way, the Ford has NO trunk....for example!

    There was a detailed Documentary that was featured on the Discovery Channel and although it gave an awesome insight into the production of the GT 40.

    It also showed that the team assembled to produce the vehicle were under the pump the whole time with an extremely short deadline. Which to me left me with the impression that the car was rushed and therefore could have been better.

    I agree with the comment about getting some mods on the 997TT.

    Rumor has it that its production was hastened through prototype phases to coincide its release with the 100th anniversary of Ford (hence a lot of the kinks and screws loose ).

    Buy the GT. They are already out of production so are relatively rare-911s are everywhere. You only have ONE chance to get a brand new GT, 911 turbos will be around forever.

    Do not waste your $$$$$$$$ modding a 997TT-you could get WAY more bang for your buck modding a GT.

    WRONG. The GT is very easy to drive. Even the mags have stated this. It definitely isn't a daily driver, but why would anyone buy it expecting that?

    They do NOT have a Lightning motor btw.

    You're right. It's a supercharged Lightning motor

    Lightnings are supercharged I'd still take the turbo any day.

    With a 100 years advance warning you'd think they'd have had enough time to plan ahead!

    I'd get a GT3RS. You won't see one everywhere and it's still a Porsche (the best as far as I'm concerned)!
