I am not talking about the 07 or 08 future V8 M3, I am talking about the V6 coupe they just released in 06. Can you beleive that it gets the gas guzzler tax and only has 330hp?

It's not the engine's fault - it's because the damn thing is so heavy. M3 used to be a sports car - now it's bigger than the first 7-Series...

It's not that heavy 3230lbs. By today's car standards that is fairly light. It's actually lighter than the old M3 coupe. According to the website it gets 16/24 mpg. I don't understand how a 3.0L V6 gets such poor mileage.

No one who can afford a $100k car cares about gas mileage...
Money is not always an issue, but having to stop every 150 miles to fill up or carry a gas can would suck

At 65mph, that's 2h20min. If you drive that hard shouldn't you rest at some point?
Seriously, it is a good point for AB driving in Germany, but even at high speeds on the highway, you will have to rest before running out of gas.

What I care about is how the car will hold up in the 2-6 years period, the real test to quality.

Actually it's a 3.2 liter, not 3.0.
Amazing how it's get worse mileage than my 5.7l V8 with 405HP stock

Thank you, sir, for the link. I now understand the model to which you were referring.
Is it possible the reason your 5.7L V8 achieves better mileage than the 3.2L I6 is partly due to the shift lockout feature?

I could see that coming into play for city mileage, but not highway. Shift lockout wouldn't help in that scenario
