Specificaly the seating is so good for many hours behind the wheel.

    Nope....Zion National Park, Utah

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Sure looks similiar to Sedona! Beautiful!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

I just love the images! Beautifully balanced and composed.
The trip sounds like a wonderful experience... I am inspired to do one too.
    Thank you for sharing.

p.s. I would love to read a detailed write-up about the trip... so if you're up to it... you've got at least one reader!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Glad to see someone enjoying their car and driving it! Nothing worse than a Porsche that is never driven!

I cover 20,000 a year and my dealer is always impressed about how well my cars feel compared to the garage queens some of his customers bring in!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

very nice, hope youve got time to give us a full report on the trip....glad to see you out doing what these cars are made for....as someone said here awhile back they aren't sculpture , pieces of jewlery or paintings to hang on the wall they are meant for driving enjoyment

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Very nice, I've always wanted to do what you have done. The closest to a long distance roadtrip that I have done in my Porsche was to North Carolina. It was beautiful and the car was very comfortable. Glad to see you enjoyed the experience.

On my last trip to Vegas I took a road trip to Lake Powell and I went through Zion. One of the Butch Cassidy and the SunDance kid movies was film at Zion. What a scenery

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Nice ride...how far east did you get?

    Re: 4718 mi across America

I always say "we buy'em to drive"

    4718 mi across America

The trip began in Los Angeles, heading across the desert on I-15 into Nevada, across the NW tip of Arizona proceeding into Utah. Exiting I-15 and proceeding to Zion Nat Park on Utah 9. Pass thru the Majesty of Zion and hook-up with US Highway 89 for the Journey North to I-70
I-70 Proceeds East thru the Rockey Mtns crossing Vail Pass 10,400 ft elavation,
Pass thru the 8,941 foot Eiesenhower Tunnel at an elevation of 11,158 ft and on towards Denver. Continuing on I-70 stopping for the night in Colby, Kansas.
Hooking up with US Highway 83 which proceeds in a diagonal NE direction up to US 36. Stayed on US 36 for the durration of my Easbound travel thru Kansas, Missouri to a small town In Illinois by the name of Newman, pop 1100.
Before the Intestate Highway system US-36 was the major E-W highway right in the center of the US.

My Southbound journey I took US 1 south thru Illinois and Indiana hooking up with the Pennyrile Pkwy just S of Evansville, Indiana, The Pkwy ends and proceed SE on I-24 To Nashville,TN picking up I-65 to Birmingham,AL.

Once in Birmingham I attended the 2 day Masters course at PDE (Porsche Driving Experience) at Barber Motorsports Park.

Leaving Birmingham proceeded NW on US-78 to Memphis, TN joining I-40 for the return trip Westward thru Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona stoping for a drive thru the Painted Desert and home to CA.

I love the US Highway system...more interesting than the Interstates...sure you have to pass thru towns every so often where the speed limit may drop to as low as 20 mph. Prmarily they are two lane undivided...a place to practice the old art of passing.

    Awards:
Missouri for some of the worst sections (bumpy) of road.
Mew Mexico for the lowest octane premium gas: 90 octane
New Mexico for the most miles of highway construction zones...miles and miles at 45mph.

Total days on the road: 7
    Av Speed: 69
    Av MPG: 25.5

Nothing but praise for the 997S as a road trip vehicle in particular the Sport Seats....no body fatigue even after 10+ hrs of seat time, ergonomically perfect...:!

The landscape of the US is beautiful and varied.

    Do a ROAD TRIP!!!!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

I haven't done anything of this scale, either in my P or any other car. However, last week I drove from NJ to Vermont and back in a single day - about 440 miles total. The car was great, comfortable, reasonably quiet and fun. I averaged 23.5 MPG, including about 20 miles running around a small town in VT.

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Sounds like you had a superb time.

I live in the UK but I came to the USA to do a road trip back in 1998. I rented a car in Denver and drove through Rocky Mountain NP in Colorado, north through Wyoming to Badlands NP and Mount Rushmore NM in South Dakota, then west to Devils Tower in Wyoming carrying on westwards to Grand Teton NP. From there, I went northwest through Montana to the Glacier NP then south through Idaho to Utah. Through Salt Lake City to Capitol Reef NP, Canyonlands NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Arches NP, Zion NP. From there, to the Grand Canyon (North rim), then to Four Corners NM, Mesa Verde NP, Royal Gorge, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak and then back to Denver. Took 4 weeks, 6000 miles. Unforgettable!!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Awesome pics and trip! Thanks for sharing!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Trundle997S, did you take a spare wheel & tire with you? If so, where in the car did you store it?

No spare wheel & tire...Just the factory goo.
BTW this was the 4th road trip across the land in this car.

Do not be afraid...just get in the car and drive it.

    DO A ROADTRIP!!

    Re: 4718 mi across America

Beautiful story and pics - inspiring. Did you do any twisties / speed tests by any chance?

I'm planning a shorter road trip with a couple of female friends to S France in a few weeks and would like to know if anyone has found a way to make the back seat more comfortable? Don't want to be the cause of permanent back injuries! Was going to search for some hopefully cocoa leather or similar round bolster cushions, but that may not be ideal, I know.

Full report when I get back...

    Re: 4718 mi across America

So nice to see someone that really uses their car to it's full potential! Thank you for posting those stunning pictures Trundle. Your 997 looks fanstatic in all the photos!
