    Is it HE or SHE?

    Admittedly a bit of an odd subject but I was just wondering. I always refer to all my cars as SHE - but is it right for a GT3

    After initial hesitation I think yes? What do others think? And do you give your cars a name

    It's obvious... with that beautiful rear end and those inviting air intakes and sleek bumpers... 911 are a "she". Plus, you may get the odd macho version... that just confirms that they are a she!

    No, I don't name my cars... (he says in a whisper just in case she over-hears and gets upset).

    as a second language english speaker, I still woould like to call my car "it". When I was learning the language, I found it hilarious to call cars, ships "she". Oh well. I would also like to think mine has balls too.

    I call my car the Frog but it certainly is a IT. Still, if I had to choose I'd say its a HE.

    I thought in French, a car is "une voiture"? So, isn't it feminine? But is 'bagnol' a masculine or feminine slang word for car?

    Correct Easy.
    You would say she in french, but that is because we don't have a translation for "it".
    But correct, the word voiture is feminine.
    So if you have to make a choice, it'd be she then

    Weirdly enough, I think Porsche AG refer to the 911 as DER neun-elf, so for them, it's a masculine and not a "das", neutral.
    Go figure.

    Good observation
    Actually we have two words for car in German language:
    das Auto (it - neutrum)
    der Wagen (he - masculinum)

    "DER 911" obviously refers to "der Wagen" - so does "DER Carrera" or "DER Boxster" etc. In Germany almost all cars have balls, as even a mere VW Golf would be called "DER Golf".
    The only cars without balls I can recall right now are the old Citroén 2 CV (DIE Ente - the "duck") and - go figure - DIE Corvette, lol

    Sometimes, I call my cars a "it" or "she" or "he." Just depends on the scenario I'm in.

    I see mine as an evil demon which are usually hermaphrodites.

    All it's gonna do is get me a ticket, cost me thousand$, break down at the worst moment (no spare should be a clue), or incur vandal-wrath from the righteous.

    What a seductively beautiful car which lures me to a serene 100+ mph without me having any control over it. Then a deer or other car flips the scene to mangled steel and plastic and unspeakable horror of viscera and entrails.
